Anyone buy a Subsea display lately?

Ok, I know there are a lot of threads about how hard it is to get a response from Jason, but I am curious as to wether or not anyone has actually been able to purchase a display from him in the past few months? I think they look like a great piece of equipment and really want to put one on my KISS, however, if its not possible to get one I'm going to have to look at other options.

Re: Anyone buy a Subsea display lately?

I purchased a full setup from Jason recently. Unfortunatly I am working away offshore and it is sitting at home waiting for me to play with it.

For what it is worth, Jason is hard to get a hold but when you do finally "breakthrough" he is really good to deal with. Straight to the point and buisness like.

I can't comment on the build quality or functionality on the unit as I havn't seen my setup yet, but if you really want one then just send him and e-mail and a PM every couple of weeks.

When I finally get home I'll post a thread on the setup with pictures.

Mate, it's been a nightmare. I've been trying to buy a sub sea set of kit for my KISS Sport since Feb 2; when I didn't get any response tried Shearwater. That didn't pan out either. Had a brief email exchange with Jason, placed order by email. three weeks ago. Nothing. Bought an inspiration. End of story. However, you might like to try Laguna they have got some really good looking kit and I was really quite keen on it for my KISS Sport except that I have hit the ceiling with the Sport and need to move to something that can handle a bit more depth / duration (need to do TX etc) and my homebuilds are still a way away. I will definitely be getting Laguna for my IDA-72!

Thumbs up Re: Anyone buy a Subsea display lately?

For the record, Jason is not always at home waiting for orders, and is often at sea himself.

When I decided that my original KISS displays were reaching the end of their 'odds are they will not flood' chances, I contacted Jason and ordered a setup. It did take a while, but it works and works bloody well.

I recently got him to change a cable configuration and update the software, and it took all of 2 weeks after I got the hardware to him. 1 of those weeks he was at sea. Not shabby, compared to Delta-P's 8 weeks...

While a large company with lots of worker bees may be a lot faster, there's more to life than instant gratification. (o-oh, I feel an educational soapbox coming on...) Be patient, it's worth the wait. For the record, it took a couple of weeks to get a Shearwater out of Bruce. Again, a little patience is rewarded with a fantastic product.

Hey mate, got no probs with your experiences and it's each to his or her own. In contrast, I sent my VR-3 back to the UK for repair ('cos I broke a pin of in de 'oley thingy), and I was quoted a price and a time. They beat the time by ovber one week and the price was smack on. At the itme I was prepared for a really, really long delay and s****y communications. Not a bar of it. DeltaP even allowed me to move my External IO Pin to my other VR3. Meanwhile, the real easy part (I thought) was getting a shearwater setup delivered and then I would have to use my second VR3 as of course Delta-P are soooo slow. NAh. The VR3 was back before I even got responses re the shearwater and the Sub sea setup . I still don't have acknowledgement of the order i placed 3 weeks ago. What I found so brilliant with Delta-P was their responsiveness and helpfulness and that is what I want when a critical piece of kit S***S itself in the field. I actually prefer the Shearwater, mate. My flatmate has one; really nice, easy to read screen and I really like the 3 sensor display on the one screen. It's just that the sales prevention team got in the way. I dislike the VR3s "buy a PIN" to have a PEE concept. But their after sales service is just second to none IMVHO.

FWIW Bruce/Shearwater's after sale service is also fantastic.

Re: Anyone buy a Subsea display lately?

I've had one for 6 months. I love it. Sure he's hard to get in touch with but just place the order and you will get it.

It's really the best PO2 meter out there.

I'm sure you're right. Missed the bus though, I've just shelled out for an Inspiration with Hammer Head and 4th cell with VR3 and I've decided Laguna is the only way to go for my KISS / IDA-72.

Thumbs up Re: Anyone buy a Subsea display lately?

When I 1st tried to contact Jason using the email address given on the Subsea Systems website, I got nowhere..

After several weeks of trying without response I then tried contacting him directly using the Rebreather World facility. I got an immediate response.

He says that he has a very agressive spam filter on his website email...but it's turning customers away !!

Anyway, once I made contact all problems were over. There was a waiting list of a few weeks before delivery & then it all came very efficiently. A nice touch is that Jason won't take your money until he's ready to dispatch the goods.

I've only had one dive on the new display so far....but very happy with 1st impressions.

You can find Jason on Rebreather World under the username "Koputai".

Re: Anyone buy a Subsea display lately?

Jason's email link is disabled on rebreatherworld, so just use a PM to contact him. I had a couple of things done recently: he was fast and responded to my PM almost immediately.

You won't regret the possible wait for a Subsea display, it's simply the duck's nuts. I also have a URM kidney and display for my KISS. It works, but it's a heavy lump that turns itself off all the time!
