| Rebreather World Greeter ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Conservatism level of Cochran EMC-16 Guys and gals, Just to be clear, I don't want to start the argument of Cochran vs. VR3! But I was wondering, because all my friends dive a VR3 and I dive with a Cochran EMC-16, at what level do you set the Conservatism of the EMC-16 in order to get somewhat close to the VR3? I am aware that those 2 computers are diffrent, but I was just curious if any of you out there have any experience? Thanks, RBN

| Going Down? ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Conservatism level of Cochran EMC-16 I don't have any experience with the EMC-16. I have used Commander, Commander+, Nitrox (2gas,2fo2), and Lifeguard versions of Cochran computers and have always left the conservatisim set at 0. No issues of any kind. I know, a bit off track of this thread ![]()

Yo Steve,Yes, there is actually a reason. I will be diving in a very remote location, next chamber is 2 days travel away! So, I figure under those circumstances a little conservancy is not a bad thing. Would hate to have to cut the trip short because of a mishap. But when I dive around here, I leave it at "0". cheers, RBN

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Conservatism level of Cochran EMC-16 Hea bro...welcome home...how was the trip? might be out your way for couple of weeks in march, i wouldn't set it more that 5% on the conservatism. If you read the article on bikini atoll it tells about setting to to conservitive, the guy didn't know he set it so, and got screwed out of some dives. On the cochran site it has a good explanation on this. I tried with both a commander and the gemini, and actually got it to go into deco on a 45FT dive...on air laytah steve |

| RebreatherWorld Sponsor ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Conservatism level of Cochran EMC-16 Guys and gals, The EMC16 is a bit different than the EMC20 (16 compartments compared to 20) Your EMC16 is a nitrogen based unit, not helium. Just to be clear, I don't want to start the argument of Cochran vs. Thanks, RBN To get it to fly with a shallow cieling and longer shallow times like the Buhlman based VR3 run it on a Con 10. I routinely run all my cochran units on Con 5 let it clear and then add 10 minutes on the shallow end. What you might want to do is start on 5 and track along with your friends -- note when the Cochran clears compared to them. Then just hang out with them a while. If you want to dial it up then do so on the next dive. Another thing to note is that when running on Set Point mode you dont need to hang out on stops longer than indicated. Just move on up to the next cieling. I will usually stay a few feet deeper than the cieliing so as to not violate it. Also .. if you do violate a stop for any reason and cant go back down to the stop the Cochran will NOT lock out but will recaclulate deco based on where you are. It's a neat catch up feature. If you have other questions on it just ask. Cheers
