Idiot with a Shearwater

How do you switch it on? It's an old style, GF not a Pursuit.

It's a daft question and I fully expect a barrage of (allegedly) hilarious insults but I can't turn it on. I'll save someone else saying it, no it isn't the first time I've struggled to turn something on

Yes, I've done what the manual says, and yes, there is a battery in it.

I know this is probably ridiculous, there is no movement in the buttons when I press them so am I missing something?

Answers to the Dept of Clinical Stupidity...

Cheers,

Stuart

Till someone who own one of these can help. Has got wet contacts, meaning you need to wet your fingers before touching the buttons.

Press both buttons at the same time...
If that doesn't work, I'm all out of ideas

The buttons don't have any movement in them

Hi Stuart,
normally the shearwater (GF or Pursuit) switches one by pressing both buttons simultan. Sometime the right bottom goes heavy to press, then press a little bit harder hold both bouttons until the shearwater switches on. (some seconds).

regard and good luck
Holger

Re: Idiot with a Shearwater

Both buttons together should work, and don't expect them to move, they are the more like "contacts" than buttons. If its broken then on the plus side a Shearwater is tough enough to beat the crap out of whoever sold it to you without damaging it :-)

Re: Idiot with a Shearwater

Thanks, everyone. The manual says press Menu then Select which is probably where I've gone wrong. I'll try when I get home... I wonder if having a new computer to play with is a good enough excuse for a half day?

Re: Idiot with a Shearwater

WRT the Battery- change it every 6 months, I bought mine 2nd hand, about 6months old, used it for 6months, swapped it to CK, used it for another 6months, forgot about the battery and it went flat just as I was about to step off the boat! So, with average usage it died completely after about 18months, therefore 6months seems a safe swap out period to me. (I rescued the rest of the trip it went flat on by using the HUD battery)
