Thanks for the help everyone, turned out the battery was dead, I guess it must've come on in transit. Replaced courtesy of my local geek counselling centre (Maplin).

The GF can feel a bit large especially if you are like me and have short skinny arms! I replaced the velcro straps that came with it with the same elastic straps that are on the Nitek He - made it easier to put on/take off and it didn't slide around on my wrist anymore.
