Shearwater Divelog Manager

I have owned lots and lots of computers over the years and the downloading software has always been terrible - difficult to use, incomplete, expensive hardware etc etc etc.

I have done a couple of dives with my new (to me) Shearwater GF and Ross H's download manager is fantastic. It's easy to use, shows all the data and has no fiddly hardware crap.

Even if the Shearwater wasn't such a fantastic computer, the download manager alone would make it worth considering.

Re: Shearwater Divelog Manager

Good to know! I'm just wiring my new Pursuit onto my Classic KISS and I was wondering about the dive logging software. Thanks very much. I appreciate the post.

Re: Shearwater Divelog Manager

I agree, I had put off buying the VR£ logging software because it looked cumbersome, difficult to use and expensive. What a joy when Ross' version for the Shearwater was simple to use and cost a fraction.

Well worth the money.

Yep, 5 dives on the Shearwater (oh, the joy of it all) and I'm delighted with it, and the logging software is amazingly simple to use.

Um, did I miss something, or is the print out rather sparse? I would like to pop the graph in and be able to rabbit on a bit more about the dive than seems possible at present...

If only it was available for Mac...that goes for V-Planner also.

Now I am sorry I am going to have to raise a couple of issues here.

First off let me say the ease of use and the dive graphs on the package are fantastic. For the first time i feel I can have a proper analysis of my dive and i am making notes on dive conditions and profiles and feelings after the dive.

HOWEVER

There are some very annoying features with the package that still keeps me using my Mk1 Sunnto package as a dive log book.

1: I cant delete old erroneous dives and keep them deleted. Each time i down load that time i popped down to cut the anchor free or did a 3m dive in a puddle, comes back to haunt me.

2: I want to see a full screen list of my dives with, date, location, name of wreck, depth, run time, temp, dive boat, dive buddy and type of dive (cave wreck solo drift). With the dives listed in this way i can, for example, quickly identify previous 120min 60m dives and use the excellent graphics to analise my profiles and decide what to do next dive. I can see instantly the name of a dive boat and open the report and find if I liked the boat or if it was suitable for mix diving, that sort of thing.

When the Shearwater package gives me that sort of info on the front end it will replace my old Suunto software and not before. As it is now I find the dive n the Suunto then refer back to the Shearwater package to look at the graph.

Diving Log 4.0 just came out with the ability to import Shearwater Dive Log Manager .CSV files. I initially got errors but when I reported them they were fixed promplty.

You might want to check it out since it does address the problems stated above.

I also think that if they knew there were alot of users on this forum interested they would add more CCR features.
