| HSE Backlight Just did my first dive since getting my HSE back and the backlight only lights up 1/3 of the screen. Has anyone ever had this problem? And how can I fix it? |

I'd call Gene and tell him what's up and about your training. And ask him if he'll next day you one to replace it.I had nothing but problems with mine. Bought it brand new and it went back in 4 times and always came back to me with another problem. Gene got mad when I told him I was tired of beta testing and I wanted my money back. So, now it's broke and he won't fix it or refund the money. I might have 10 dives on it. Owned it 4 years? I forgot. Nothing but a paperweight now. But, if you kiss his butt he'll fix it forever. I don't like to do that. I want it fixed the first time. I don't like getting screwed and I'll tell the guy. If I ever go to a show he's at. I'll tell him real loud. Being swindled for $1400 really ticks me off. |

You'd think after explaining that taxpayers pay his salary and he should go catch real criminal he would be more lenient. The point is Gene has always been pretty good to me but I don't think I have kissed his ass.

Was your buddy speeding? If the answer was yes he deserved what he got. Funny, people speed then bitch they got a speeding ticket. You take the risk, you pay the fine. I never had a problem with that. The point is Gene has always been pretty good to me but I don't think I have kissed his ass. What the hell does that have to do with me buying a brand new HSE and it breaking 3 times and going back and never working right? And every break was a design fault. Capacitor turning into a resistor. Loosing half the numbers past 100ft. After the NEW IMPROVED screen hook up that was supposed to fix that. Flooding. Bad deco numbers. And won't turn on after being on and shutting itself off. With, a big whopping 10 dives. Maybe... Not one of these relates to USER error. The shutting itself off happened right after I got it back. It was sitting on my bed in my room. I was trying it out and that's what I got. Oh, he tested it for a month to make sure it was right also. I know letting it sit on a pillow top king size matress is pretty rough on it. But, I kinda expect it to stand up to at least that. My GF wasn't over that day so no wild jumping. It never worked right. Ever. So yea. I should be polite for 2 or 3 years while he get's it figured out? Nah, I want my money back. And, I even sent it across country for someone else to try it out. He got good deco numbers. But wham, he's the one half the screen disappeared on. And he's a pretty well respected diver but I ain't naming him cause he don't want that problem. After that, first dive it flooded. If you sent your unit back multiple times to be fixed. You've kissed his ass. I haven't had to do that with ANY gear I own. For ANYTHING. And, I own around 8 dive computers. Shearwater, VR3, Bunch of Cochrans, Couple others I don't remember but don't use anymore. Never a problem. I did install a battery in the wrong way on a Cochran. Guess what. It didn't work. I turned it around and guess what, it worked. Try that with your HSE. Oh, ya can't. The electronics can't take that. Why, cause it wasn't engineered in. I'd love to sell the HSE owners cars. So when they leave you stranded I'll take them back and let it take me 2 to 3 months to fix it and then it breaks when you get it back home. And you have to pay the tow fee back to the dealer again. Then, I don't think you'd be so sweet and cheery. Especially after the 3rd time. Oh, and no rental offered for you during your wait. That's a better analogy. Oh, and I did get 2 batteries from him. He shipped them when he got them in took about 2 months. I wanted to make sure to get the "PROPER" battery. This was the second time I had to send it in. He reminded me I owed him the $8 for the battery when they looked through my file. Well, thanks. I just paid shipping back to you twice on a dive computer that hasn't ever worked. Glad you can't comp me a battery. But I paid it. He sent the computer back with the battery installed and wow. It still didn't work. That's when it was shutting off. He installed the battery and tested it. Sorry, but it's a POS and so is Gene. |

| Re: HSE Backlight Was your buddy speeding? .... Sorry didn't mean to make light of your situation. I was being flippant.I was able to convince Gene to send me a replacement computer after a similar story to yours with my first one. I have had no issues with it. Some of his units just won't work right no matter how many software tweaks he does.
