X1 Heavy duty wrist strap

Hi.

I ordered My X1 and hope to receive it soon (normaly in 2weeks)
Reading the hardware manual I'm not realy convincet about the Heavy duty wrist strap.
So can you (lucky X1 divers) give your opinion on that strap ?
Have to prepare a replacement solution or it's ok ?

Re: X1 Heavy duty wrist strap

Hi,

I try mine copples times and I change the strap with 2 sandows. I feel better with than the wrist strap. It's not elastic. You have to fix again during dive if you don't want to lose the X1.

It's the only thing I'll would change anyway.

Well, but the X1 is a real good product for diving with a eCCR with v-planner Live.

You are making the good choice.

So long

The wrist strap is heavy duty. It won't break until maybe your thousandth dive. Since it doesn't stretch, you do have to cinch it down pretty good when on the surface. It works for me though. I'm not sure I'll change it out yet. I'm thinking that if I change it for bungy, that the bungy will not hold it still enough and allow it to rotate around the arm when tapping. I'm open though.

Re: X1 Heavy duty wrist strap

The folks at LiquidVision were kind enough to send me an X1 case and interface to use to develop a bungee ready mount. I just received the goods, so it will be ~ January before I have a mold designed and built.

Re: X1 Heavy duty wrist strap

I have two thoughts about the X1 strap. On the one hand, this type of strap is much easier to put on than the VR£ strap. On the other hand, if it isn't done up tight, it could work loose.

Solution is to fix a thin snoopy loop to the X1. Acts as a cheap safety lanyard and you get the benefit of the easy donning of the original X1 strap. I have similar on my VR£ and my Vyper.

Bingo! I'm changing.

This is AWESOME news! I don't know how this came together but this is great. I have the Suunto SK7 mount and love it. Put me down for taking an X1 mount from the inventory as soon as they are ready.

Thanks Tobin

Actually, if you do the wrist strap correctly, it won't come undone. The only way the would come loose around the arm is if you're in a dry suit with a decent squeeze or maybe if you were wearing a wet suit since there is less material to cinch down on to form a trap in the material (make sense?) But, you're NOT going to lose it especially if you put it on the other side of your bottom timer.

I don't know if I agree that it is easier to put on than a VR3. Threading that not-so-stiff band through the first small metal loop with a dry suit and 400g Thinsulate thermals in warm weather can test anyone's paitience. LOL However, I feel a LOT more comfortable that it ain't gonna disappear like the VR3 might. That's why I'm ok with it. But, I'm gonna snag a Tobin mount when they hit the streets. Maybe Liquivision should strike up a deal with Tobin and make it OEM with the X1.

As far as the band coming apart, there are three metal loops. After the first metal loop where the pin gets pushed through the band, the band then comes back onto itself to form a cinch through another metal loop. It ain't gonna leave your arm. Now maybe on a wet suit, it might slide down the arm and over your hand depending on the size of the loop in the band due to where you put it on your arm.

At least there is one thing to appreciate. If you were to somehow lose it at depth, at least it would be easy to find. It's like a neon sign, unless it got dropped in arm deep silt.

well i dunno bout that. what if you dropped in side a wrek? or it fell face down?

i saw an hs explorer disappear in a sand bottom quarry w/ 20 ft vis, fell off a wrist and poof into oblivion. Of course that wasnt exactly the same as losing an x1.......

Re: X1 Heavy duty wrist strap

I never understood wrist straps. Having spent *hours* on the boat strapping them to divers who need a third hand... and watching countless computers lost over the years. I just hate them.

Two loops of 1/8 dameter surgical tube work better than anything. Instant kit up / kit off, total redundancy, fit any suit in any condition, and dirt cheap. Works for knives too. Try it, you'll like it.
