Hammerhead Battery Testing -split from new sets announcement

Nope. Just let the unit fire the Solenoid over and over. That'll give you a "worst-case" scenario for battery life. That's what we do here in the shop, anyway...

Kevin.
Heydude, I understand now.....don't connect the unit/head up, just leave the head in "air" so the solenoid keeps firing with the handsets placed in cold water

Re: New Hammerhead Sets - Announcement

I have a test running as we speak. The primary is powered with Energizer 1,5V AA lithium and the secondary by Duracell Procell 1,5V AA.

The head is open and now actual O2 is fed to the solenoid. The handsets are submerged in water ica-cubes mix, water temp tropical ~3 Celsius. Lets see how long it will run...

That will give you a reasonable worse (well almost) case max run time... but also rember there will be a period that if the backlight is NOT activated the system will run fine, but there is an overlap that if both the solenoid fires at the same time the BL is on, the system may not be able to deliever enough current and the handset will reboot.. There is no easy way to test that..

I will go push the button now and then. How does it affect on the solenoid that there is no O2 pressure to it? I guess it is not taking as much power with O2 pressure?

the higher the IP the greater the current draw.. so without any pressur e on it it wount draw as much as in real life, however, the way the unit is working now, its probably firing 3 seconds on 3 seconds off and repeating.. this is alot more on time that would ever happen.. in reality most of the time it should only be on for about 2 seconds every minute..

Yep, it is open 3s and closed 3s. 60mins and counting, 1,3V on primary and 1,4V on secondary...

Now 4h, 1,3V on primary and 1,2V on secondary. If I press the button on the primary while solenoid is open the voltage drops to 1,2 for a while.

Re: Hammerhead Battery Testing -split from new sets announcement

So I had to stop the test at 4 hours RT, had to go to sleep. The battery was still working fine. I will give the same tested battery a real life dive test next weekend. It is promisinf nice diving weather, -8C and warm water

Define "warm" in that context ?

Don't you mean just warmER than -8C...

Jeez, give me chills just thinking about it before I go diving tomorrow in my Winter "cold" 20C water (on bottom)... Grass is greener on this side...
