Each time, Gene was very nice, and he sent me a different unit with different problems. All in all, Gene had it for more of that year than I did. I went to a VR3, and never a problem with that. |

If you are going to go with a non-integrated computer Cochran EMC-20H is pretty flawless. My info on the Explorer goes back to the original Abyss / HS Explorer. Gene may have fixed his manufacturing issues but suffice to say I don't dive one. Some people have had flawless results with it, and I am happy they have. Most have not. The concept is good, it was the first multi-gas unit. I hope those who use them now are having better results now. Cheers

But neither the EMC 16 Or 20H allow for bail out to OC. A major downside. And word has it, streight from the manufacturer, that Mat's technique of leaving the touch option on and using a clip to cross contacts to switch to Fo2 under water does not work...according to the manufacturer, they can not get this to happen in the lab... bummer! They sounded hopeful. Not being able to bail out to OC when deco diving, turns the EMC into a back up, and a pricey one at that. IMHO. g If you are going to go with a non-integrated computer Cochran EMC-20H is pretty flawless. My info on the Explorer goes back to the original Abyss / HS Explorer. EMC16 does not do helium only the EMC20H As to bail out ... just run your numbers right and you can fly it on CCR and OC just pick the right set point and the correct bail out gasses. for example a 10/50 dill with a 21/30 OC bail and a 70 EAN oc bail allows you to have an almost identical schedule as you would on 1.2 set point CCR. But to each his own. I carry to EMC20s one set for CCR one for OC. I hate pushing computer buttons underwater. ![]() | Re: HS Explorer what do you think of it? I actually like mine (model M), and unlike some others out there, I have had no problems or floods. Great display, but poor backlight. I wear a little LED masklight to see the screen better - works great that way. That all said, I'd like to sell it! (That sound you hear is Dave Sutton laughing!) I bought a Meg, and the Shearwater will be a better computer for me and the diving I do, and it will monitor all three cells instead of one. If I can't sell the HSE, it will likely be my backup running on constant PO2 mode
