| Blogs Admin / Forum Mod ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Next generation rebreather - your wishlist I thought it would be good to compile a wishlist for the rebreather of the future. Anything practical, useful, outrageous, new, ..., you can think of? This list might be a good starting point for established Rebreather companies as well as for start-ups and homebuilders. So get your creative juices flowing :-) As a start, here is my "Top XX" of the wishlist: - uncluttered chest, but WOB like OTS CLs - scrubber duration 4-6 hours - some easily changeable, clean, foolproof, cheap, one way scrubber - an O2, He, CO2 sensor pack, cheap, accurate, fast - HUD, dive computer with selectable deco algorithm - open, well documented interfaces (for download of dive date etc) - easily extendable/upgradable - SCR->mCCR->eCCR - integrated BOV as standard - uses industry standard hoses, connectors etc - scrubber use indicator (beyond the 'temp stick') - can take any?/most sizes cylinders - can dump water from exhale CL - lightweight! And that is only the start ... I look forward to more ideas.

| New Member ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Next generation rebreather - your wishlist - uncluttered chest, Can I reverse that?I want the works on my chest where I can get to it. Valves, switches, injectors, displays. Nothing important should be behind me or clagging up my wrists. (That's just soooo OC). Then I want the whole thing thinner so my total keel-to-deck thickness is less. Nothing behind me would be best as I can negotiate the kit I can see through a confined space but bumping tanks or even the YBOD case through gaps that always seen smaller on the way out is just bad news. I want to be able to work it blind, by feel, in a confined space and know everything is obeying my orders. I'm beginning to develop the idea that if I developed a controller one of the button functions would to announce depth, ppO2 and remaining time for this stop in speech over the 'buzzer'. (edit) So the buttons go in the sides of the chest box. Well that's inset about an inch into an inch diameter hole with a good clunky tactile click then they operate. Only the 'OFF' selection requires two hands. In blackout mode it announces what you just selected with 'do it again' to unset. Now what about running the hoses round your neck rigid and only going flexible below your ears? They can be elliptical which should do wonders for the field of view. It might mean we are able to have a mouth shield so we can talk by popping the mouthpiece forward on a corrugated bit. I've used coms in a hard hat and it adds tons to a dive. Can I have a KM style mask clear valve? We want to reduce the natural buoyancy of the unit, not by adding lead or steel but by reducing unproductive airspace so WOB should be tackled from a gas dynamics point of view. The lowest point in the loop should be a water separator - we shouldn't be collecting all this exhaled and leaked gloop and taking it home - a total flood should be managed by good hydrophobics and a quick DIL flush. All operator errors should be annunciated and be reversible (but not automatically - you might be fixing a problem it doesn't understand). Probably more but I'm supposed to be at work... (/edit)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Next generation rebreather - your wishlist A scrubber material that can be reused after reactivation some how. Thinner loop hoses-some 'magic' material that is smooth on the inside no matter how it is bent so the diameter could be reduced as there would be less turbulent flow. Modular scrubber sizes, so the same shell can be used for say 3, 6, 10 hour duration size scrubbers. Able to switch between mCCR and eCCR easily underwater. CO2 monitoring, real time for breakthrough. An adjustable OPV that you can reach yourself if needed [Yup, I dive a Dolphin!] Gas switching block for deco mixes when trimix diving. Perhaps an 'emergency' loop that only uses the hoses and mouthpiece but has a 20 min duration mini scrubber and loop to get you out the poo if you are too deep to use deco. CL's could be bonded to the main CL's and use the same volume inside the unit.
