Since I failed to convince him of taking the CCR-course, I have now rewritten that section. As for continuing the development of the Bucket Rebreather - towards an eCCR - I fear it I will be forced to make design choices that will favour particular commercial units and not others. And we all know how popular that is on this forum ![]() jsevland |

(First paragraph, first line: "rebreahers" vs "rebreathers" If you want to get ridd of the silly blue line at the bottom of the page, send me the original document and I'll be happy to convert it for you (put your name under the title - it's original work). writing "don't try this at home" is the best way of making sure people actually do - hell, I'll go looking for bucket as soon as I get back home ![]() Very nice work, especially the drawing ![]() J |

Even the Mk 1 will sustain you for a minute or so not seconds. 'Everybody' knows you can hold your breath for 'seconds' and not die so rewrite those bits with 'minutes' for increased credibility. Hey you didn't mention that I have to add lead to my bucket to make it sink with me... Oh... You did say not to try it at home didn't you... Forget that... I never asked...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: The Bucket Rebreather Thanks for your pedantic reply. I'm so used to seeing red lines under rebreather jargon, that I missed the spelling. Regarding the final warning of "don't try this at home" - it's the greatest tease ever - I simply could not resist ... I remember having dived the Mark 1 as a child and it obviously did not kill me, although it never caught on among my friends ![]() jsevland |

Nigelh may be right, but I surely didn't want to oversell Mark 1!Even the Mk 1 will sustain you for a minute or so not seconds. 'Everybody' knows you can hold your breath for 'seconds' and not die so rewrite those bits with 'minutes' for increased credibility. The gas mix in the bucket will very quickly turn hypoxic if you keep breathing it. According to Alex (AD_ward9) simulation and my own naive Evolution Simulator, the loop on a CCR will be hypoxic in less than a minute if the O2 (or controller) is turned off. Depending on the size of the bucket (and your head), the Mark 1 may out-perform other rebreathers, but that comparison is surely outside the intended scope of my article. I will keep the original wording, even if someone believe it will sustain life for longer. Please, do not risk your lives proving me wrong! jsevland |

Turn off the O2 and wait. Flush the O2 out of the reg if you like so you can leave the controller on and watch the ppO2. It isn't a minute. You will get very bored waiting for the ppO2 to fall enough to set the alarms off. That's the wonderful thing about a rebreather. You get time to think.
