![]() | Swinging an O2 tank - I am heading out to Truk next month, and the Oddysey does not have Inspiration style tanks available. However, they do have 30 CuFt aluminum Luxfers O2 tanks available with swing rings. If I lengthen the hose to from the 1st stage to the gas block I would be able to just swing it, put the pressure guage on the tank band. There would be no quick disconnect and I'd have to screw the 1st stage in and out to get in/out of the rig - but that would be only a minimal inconvenience. This seems like the same style as those who use a Armadillo side mount. I already plug my bail-out in to the gas block, so I dont really need a Dil bottle, and the whole trip is air. This seems a pretty simple alternative to bringing my own steel tanks all the way to Truk - an paying the extra luggage and overweight fee's. Has anyone done this and how have you fared? Terry |

Terry You could always ship you tanks there by US mail.. Chuuk is part of the US mail system (again).. Then do the same on the return.. Normal US shipping rates apply..

![]() | Re: Swinging an O2 tank - Joe - I thought of that, but after Palau I go to Truk, and they are not part of the postal system, so I would have to rely on someone to post them from Truk. Anyway I found a dive shop (Scuba Diving Micronesia with Fish 'n Fins, Palau's Pioneer Dive Shop) in Palau who confirms rebreather support with tanks and sorb so I can rent them there. The Oddysey has alumnum 30's for O2, and my thinking right now is to bring my O2 valve and metalsub bands and mount the 30's to the can just like the steel 19's. Terry |

![]() ![]() | Re: Swinging an O2 tank - So, I'm going to Truk on the Odyssey too, but with a KISS Classic. Here is what I was thinking: Carry 2 - 6 cu ft inflation bottles for use on the breather. Should be enough O2. Then attach an offboard dil tank to the manifold using a QD from an 80 (which would also be my bailout). I don't know an easy way to pipe in O2 to the CK without adding a switching block. (But mods have not been something I have been doing a lot or thinking about a lot.) I'm very interested in opinions about this idea. Second, I am also interested in shipping to Truk. I have sent things to my friends on the Odyssey before and it was indeed through the USPS. But these were personal letters and packages for them. I'm curious if anyone has actually shipped gear to be held for themselves for a trip. If so, did you ship it to Blue Lagoon Dive shop or the resort itself? or did you ship it to the Odyssey's address? Sorb will cost $225US per keg on the boat, so I know I can ship there more cheaply. Did you have hold ups in customs? What lead time did you use? Were there customs fees applied and how were they paid? Thanks in advance!

They had Inspo tanks as well as others as seemed happy for people to use them for a small storage fee paid to the hotel. Search the forums and you should find it. Not sure if he still has the gear here but worth a try. You could sling an o2 tank but I don't think it would be all that pleasant an experience. |

I think that was Ron Benson..., his last post on the matter indicated due to abuse and safety concerns the gear was taken out of circulation....Search the forums and you should find it. Not sure if there are non-Buddy 19's out there that fit the Inspo. If you have not taken tanks before it's really not as horrendous as it seems. Ok, well it's a pain in the arse but doable, even within weight limits. g

A Y manifold from Omniswivel is enough, switch with the tank valves and you need a blocked reg on each O2 tank of course. Same for the dil using the stock manifold.Best Philippe |
