Is it better to solder or crimp?

these are very very hard to fit as they are made to go with coaxial cable
and if you can get it to mate with normal cable with any success your doing better than we can do!
the positive solder pin is very small as it is made to fit a specific cable type and it is well protected so very fine soldering is require...not a problem in it's self but getting the cable core to go through the hold that leads to the centre pin will be!
good luck.
kind regards john routley

Are you saying it can't be done?
Has nobody done this before?
Have I got to send it to AP?
Hope not.

Re: Coax Connectors

Hello all,

One solution would be to use a SMB connector like this:

Then solder the cables and coat it with glue to prevent humidity to corrode the wires.

It's from Radiospares, reference number 124-8893

Re: Coax Connectors

Or you could solder in some coax as intended and then solder normal cable to that.

Coaxial cables can be sometimes hard to bend. I personnaly would use normal cables.
And, coating inside the connector is not an easy job.

the coax that these connectors are made to fit is very flexable i have a load here with the connectors and i can tie very small knots in it with no issues
coating the connector i dont see as the problem but the connection using normal cable is, just buy a connector and you will see what i mean
or if you like i will take a picture for you and you can see for your self

But bending the cable too much can damage it. Espcially if it's made of PTFE

If you try to use the connector that Shaunzxr has shown, yes, I agree.
If you're using the connectors I showed, I don't see any problem soldering wires.

Yes please John, show me a photo!

you are right what i was trying to tell you the coax for these connectors is very flexable and it only has a diamitor of 2.8mm it wasnt meant o tell people to tie the coax in knots!
if you so wish to use pcd mounts i dont see much of a problem as long as you keep the cable stable when soldered to the fitting most heat shrink only has a a contration ratio of 2:1 but there is a few specials out there that have a better ratio you just have to look
pictures below!
kind regards john routley
