Re: Coax Connectors

This is the type I used to use in my satellite and radio days. It has been a long time but I used to have no problem with the small coax cable that it was used with. You should be right to get to the centre pin and the outside of the connector for the ground with your soldering iron.

And, coating inside the connector is not an easy job.

Can you explain what you mean by coating the inside of the connector?

Re: Coax Connectors

Yes, of course. I mean puting some glue to prevent moisture to corrode the wires.

Is that more clear? (sorry, english is not my native language )

Talking Re: Coax Connectors

Took Narked at 90 advise and got some. They were about £3.90 each and as they are so cheap I got 5.
You can see from the pictures theres plenty of room to solder

Re: Coax Connectors

I'm not an expert so if I'm wrong please correct me.
They are called "AuPt crimp SMB female elbow plug,50ohm" RS stock No. "420-5388"
They are from
rswww.com home
They cost £3.91 each £4.95 delivery
I just use normal solder, you need a fine ended solder iron
I use araldite glue
I solder onto the barrel, slide the sleeve over and then slide over heatshrink

Re: Coax Connectors

A friend of mine helped me with changing connectors from molex to coax. We bought a kit of cables with fitted connectors (one in each end) from elfa.se. The small plugs shown in the first picture was removed so silicone could be filled in the empty space. When the job was done we had one spare connector which was used to make an adaptor (as shown in the last picture).

Re: Coax Connectors

Very impressive/professional.
the coax to Molex lead I assume is for emergency when coax cells are not available.
I knew I wasn't the first to do this, can't understand why nobody has posted how to do it.
The Coax is a much better way to connect to the cell and I thought by now everyone would be doing it.
