At the GUE conf (IIRC) JJ said they swap to a fresh RB80 once they exhaust the duration of the other (I seem to recall the 'deco' Rebreather has smaller tanks too - but may have dreamt that). I do know that once they reach the habitats they ditch the rbs and go into a deco rig (OC) I pressume they didnt change that protocal - but I could be talking b_llocks on both counts ![]()

![]() | Re: RB80 divers discover major new cave passage at Wakulla Nothing rude about it. Everything is surveyed, and all of the data is provided immediately after the dive to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Geologic Survey. At each line wrap Casey takes a compass reading and records relevant info in his survey book, all the while counting knots between each wrap. What sort of distance between wraps in this sort of cave, noting the enormous amount of new line they lay as they progress.Regards Hugh |

Mike was correct about the deco protocol. Primary breathers are switched out for the deco breathers when the team returns to 120', then they go to open circuit for O2 in the habitat. It is a safety factor to have a freshly packed breather in the water during a 24 hour exposure, and the divers do seem to appreciate having a smaller unit for the last half of the dive. The deco breathers are rigged with 40s instead of the 120s used for exploration.Regards Hugh As for the survey, the shots are as long as they can find a straight distance. As short as a few yards, as long as 700' in this instance. -anthony |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: RB80 divers discover major new cave passage at Wakulla The local CBS news station has posted their coverage of the dive. Unfortunately, they couldn't handle the high def footage from the current dives, so they used standard DV from 2004/5, when the team was placing the metering stations throughout the first few thousand feet of the cave for the department of environmental protection.
