One where if you stand up your head is not above the surface, was my reply.

We ain't supposed to be there, it ain't our environment.

Please lets all take care and have a 2007 without fatalities, that is my wish for this year & of course rich & welath to you all too.

I am much more scared by shallow dives on a Rebreather than deep ones.

On the deep ones you spend say 20 mins working where you can be distracted the vast majority of the time you spend on deco doing nothing with nothing to distract you. On shallow dives its the other way around - lots of time on the bottom with things to distract and faster dropping PPO2.

I wont do a pool session without someone looking over me - but Im happy to dive to 200m+ solo and thats no BS

Andy,

I think we are but I have only 1 comment regarding your PO2 spike/rapid descent comment...

I have scootered straight down as fast as I could equalize, and not spiked the PO2. I can't explain why you are spiking your PO2 when you descend since we have never dived together, but it is NOT a given relationship between spiking PO2 and descent rate since there are other variables involved.

Anyway, what works for you, works for you.

So I will agree to disagree here about pre-breathing as the unit functional test...

Phi yes you're right. I didn't mean to suggest that ot always does with a rapid descent. And just to be clear, my PO2 usually doesn't spike unless I either stop for a minute or 2 during the descent, or were to start out with a bunch O2 in the loop before getting in...

CDNN :: Diver Error Cause of Rebreather Scuba Diving Fatality
Cheers for posting this Pete. It has felt like an eternity waiting for the Coroner to hold the inquest, and to finally get the findings out into the rebreather community is like a breath of fresh air.

For once, a newspaper has reported the facts correctly and we all have the chance to reflect on the findings.

Dive safe everyone, and "Always know your ppO2".

Unlike Optimists, Cynics are never shocked when it all goes tits up, but pleasantly suprised when it all works.
