beanie

The tread was for lines that had not been taken apart in three months. Not owning the unit in question, I was just suggesting what the aviation industry has made common practice. mark the bolt, bolt moves , bolt is loose , why is bolt loose, figure out why bolt is loose.

i have woken up in the middle of the night and called dispatch, so that they could ask the line mech to check something that i had done on an aircraft. it was about every six months that i had that feeling that made me make the call. There was never a problem. A newbee boss chewed my butt one time i made the call, but one of the old timers saved me. his statement was, there are five hundred people on the aircraft, and if any one of my people has a single question on it's ability to fly, it does not fly!

so when you prep your units forget that you are preping for yourself, you are preping that unit for your children.

anal is good. While i dont take apart my lines, they are all torqued marked. so i don't have to.

Of course I can't answer for Graham, so he will do it later on.

BTW, I have seen plenty of people simply undone the lid, slip out the scrubber bottom and leave the lid hanging in the case.

It is usually done on live-aboard trips when you simply want to change the sorb quickly between dives.

Flip the unit around, take off the scrubber bottom, remove the sorb insert, take it down-wind to change, come back and re-install everything.

Otherwise, when at home, I take everything apart and clean/lub everything each time I change sorb since I have a few days to do it...

But Graham could always come back and prove me wrong though...

Re: Tighten Your Nuts

No worries Phi... I'm always happy to learn new tricks / techniques... and in light of what you said then I concur..it probably was the knurled nut...and deff. should be checked for tightness before a dive.

yep I had one go before a dive after checking that my unit was all set up - first dive of the week. Quiet scary to have something go bang behind you head when your kitting up

Same as OC, if the o-ring blows then the "boom" will happen when pressurized...

The knurled head, not the fitting itself. That's solid.
