Re: My first screw up on Boris

Mike,

Once again thank you for your abject honesty and willing to share this.

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

I am glad you are still around so please do not leave this mortal coil soon.

I, for one, analyse everything. Even if it has been filled and anlaysed in front of me already.

9%? Thank feck yer still here....

Kind regards,

DC.

Re: My first screw up on Boris

I told you cave diving is much more safe

Thanks for sharing and I'm glad you're still with us

My way of dealing with O2 and Dil is to use first OFF-BOARD gas

1) off board O2 I use a 3 lit (plenty enough for 6-8h)

2) off board Dil I use an S80 (plenty enough for deep dives w or w/out yoyo profiles)

3) if shit happen (ex your neck seal tank leak) it will usually be the off board tank or the QC6 => therefore you and your unit become independant from the outside world and depends only from your inboard to go up or back home

4) negative point, you'll have the Low O2 and Dil Alarm (white Led) flashing all the way, so your "visual" attention to other possible Alarms is nil, at least your jaw vibrating Alarm is still on stand-by (when vibrator work)

5) I prefer not to have key-coded QC6 therefore I can plug the O2 off-board on the dil connector, therefore from -6 (deeper if I'm happy to take the risk) I can trigger the ADV when I'll metabolise O2

PS before of O2 booster they can be very dangerous beast and bloop up your garage

PS2 get that bladdy HUD fixed, I know it's expensive but the HUD connector seems to be the solution ... even if the leds should not fail

Re: My first screw up on Boris

Hi Mike,

Glad you still alive for at least 2 reasons:

1. we still have so many wrecks and caves to explore together

2. you always have so many stories to tell and they sound so funny afterward.

But as I know what kind of diving conditions you should have faced during this trip, I clearly imagine that wasn't funny at all when it happened to you....

Cheers

Re: My first screw up on Boris

Thanx for sharing!
Glad to hear that you are ok! Had a somewhat simular surfaceswim in the Baltic sea on friday.....makes one think one more time...
I need to get a second higher surfacemarker, more spools, longer line on the reel etc.....
Its good to get a "scary reminder" now and again to keep one on his toes...

Spellbinding tale, Mike, when you screw up you really make it worth it.
Glad to see you got away with it, thanks so much for sharing it.

Re: My first screw up on Boris

Very glad you got to tell us all about it. I for one will not forget your story in a hurry.....

I note you were using a full face, once you had broken the surface were you not tempted to just fully inflate your BCD to the max (dump anything that was weighting you down) and bail out on to good ol' surface air. All hine site ofcourse but just wanted to ask.

Thanks.....

Fil

PS I need to buy a set of those out board plugs in's, I have already run out of on board dil, 2 litres are just not enough when it gets bumpy on deco (I have learnt to turn off my ADV when it gets bumpy).

Re: My first screw up on Boris

Great write up Mike I have had one or two really hairy exits on ladders and I know how you must have felt, but to add in to that the PP02 issue?? jeezz I am so glad you are fit and strong (at least you appear that way in your picks).

A good honest and open report that might alert others to the folly of being too good to bother with the simple stuff.

You want to stick to 200m caves M8 this OW stuff is far too dangerous
