![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Electrocution in Madison Blue And here I thought rebreather divers were detail oriented. I put the word Electrocution in quotation marks in the subject line. Better now? If I had a bolt of lightning go up my ass, as long as it touches my prostate then yes...I wouldn't care what you call it. ![]() BTW, here is what Wikipedia says: Quote: Electrocution is also frequently used to incorrectly refer to a non-fatal electric shock. So, sorry for being so imprecise in my wording, but in my defense, English is not my first language ![]() Last edited by MarcLaukien : 19th May 2008 at 17:44. |

There are only 2 other reports of possible lightning contact with divers on record, one report from Devil's Cave around Hill 400 in 2002 and a fatal hit in Deerfield Beach: Yahoo! Should I be worried about getting zapped or my sensors failing tomorrow while diving with John in the Keys????John I'm thinking it might be best if I utilize "EMP Strike" option Kevin left buried deep within the menu of our Hammerhead Handsets - It must be a feature that he included on his military versions of the handsets, yet never removed it from the recreational version. I figure if I attack first, that will put John on the defensive and he'll be less prone to make an offensive move! Oh sh%# , I'm actually diving with two of the Collective's finest, Eric and John tomorrow!! John's got the bad karma thing going for him (first Marc's shock, then Don's mysteriously failing sensor!), and we all know Erics out to get his revenge on all Optima divers for the whole "Optima Emblem on the Meg" incident!!!![]() I'm definitely taking my bang stick and an extra dive knife on tomorrow's dives - My eyes and ears will be on full alert and I'll be ready for evasive and retaliating maneuvers on tomorrow's dives!!!Wish me luck folks!!!

A couple of years ago we were escorting some open water students on their first dive tour and got tagged twice. We had entered the water with the weather being slightly cloudy but no rain or storms in sight. Went about our business and while swimming to shore I felt a tingle in my fillings and my compass went in circles. Sort of the same feeling as would occur when you touch your tongue to a 9 volt battery. Certainly not perceived as life threatening and wrote off at the time as a middle age moment. About five minutes later the same thing happened but we were just about to surface and saw the flash from the sky and again the fillings were rattled. Once we regrouped on the shore everyone else mentioned they had received the same "tingles" Found out later that there had been a flash storm and a number of strikes in the area. Certainly didn't hit in the immediate vicinity but likely some current from a distant strike caught the iron vein. All and all no harm done but we did think that we had a more unique "bet this never happened to you before" story. I am a bit concerned that the only other person I have ever heard this happening to is a friend who frequents the same local quarry where this occured. Might not be a bad idea Kat if the next time we run into each other and shake hands one of us should be grounded. |
