I'd be interested to know where this is taught/recommended, and who these "large number of divers" are! HSE said the same thing yet in the (small unrepresentative) sample of Rebreather divers I've met it was considered in the same vein as going for a stroll on the M6 in the dark wearing a black suit... :O not *one* of them (myself included) would even have *considered* repacking a scrubber with used lime, after all, it's used and by definition no longer reliable! Hell I even think twice before using a half fill adaptor let alone contaminating the stuff that's helping to keep me alive... and for which we have no reliable sensor on the set ![]() |

As I think I've already posted on this thread twice. I know of at least two rebreather divers who have been taught to do this on their MOD 1 course. After the subsequent hit HSE investigation, their instructor is no longer teaching, and they have retrained with a proper instructor (DaveT). It does happen. Janos

You clearly do not have the right pucka Navy backround my lad HSE said the same thing yet ... Only kidding, but therein lies the origin of the practice. Once upon a time. I was taught to throw the stuff away if there is ever any doubt at all how much is used and how much is left, but the world is made up of lots of different people with different backgrounds ... and 20 or so years ago people did not understand the issues with rebreathers as much as today. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Video of a C02 hit Fair enough and thanks for the replies gents. Apologies if I was going over old ground as I didn't read through the whole thread here. (too many fora not enough time!) Also no intention to be rude to careful divers who were instructed badly. Regards, Smudge ps. You're right, I don't have a Navy background, green machine me ![]() |

No, not sure at all. Especially depending on exactly which people one has in mind.![]() Tools are much better today, but basic knowledge is often worse.
