If anyone has any further solid info about the Oriskany accident, we're all looking forward to hearing it. The two split threads are: http://www.rebreatherworld.com/gener...ny-thread.html and http://www.rebreatherworld.com/dive-...ny-thread.html If anyone sees any posts that should or shouldn't have been moved, feel free to drop me, or any of the other mods / admins a PM, and we'll see what we can do. Thanks, Dave Rebreather World Mod

![]() | Re: Oriskany Accident Closed- Optima. I was there (on another boat) and saw them getting into the water. I was there also. I was on the "WET DREAM" diving with NABS and we were next to the "H20" where this young man surfaced. While I was on the flight deck of the big O at 140 feet depth I believe I saw him at around 20 more feet below me. I was doing my surface interval when he came up I heard someone yell 160 feet for 105 minutes and 02 was immediatly administered. We gave up our 02 bottle from our boat to help out. the H20 still had divers in the water so I'm assuming that is why they could not leave at that very moment. It was a sobering experience. I extend my condolences to the family. |

A 105min runtime may explain why H2O still had OC divers in (already on a second dive maybe?) during the evac.Tibby

![]() ![]() | Re: Oriskany Accident I was Lee's dive buddy when he sustained his fatal injury. His run time was 105 mins total. Not 105 mins at 160'. Lee was alert and communicating with me at 20'. When I completed my commitment plus 5 mins. I told Lee I was going to the boat. He acknowledged and indicated he had 14 mins. at 20' remaining. He surfaced and boarded the boat about 14 mins. later, but within 3 to 5 mins of boarding the boat he was out. We were on the H2O Below and the crew did a fantastic job of administering first aid as did a Nurse who swam over from the "Wet Dream" and a boat Capt. from another vessel....can't remember his name. Additionally, one of the other divers on the boat that day was an EMT. Lee had the best First Aid possible....he simply sustained an injury that was too severe. I have some questions about the function of the Hammerhead Electronics and the readouts Lee would have been getting. At this point, I'd be very interested in speaking with someone familiar with the Optima/Hammerhead combination via phone. Perhaps an e-mail to establish communications would be appropriate. The Coast Guard report has not been completed and the Med Examiner will not complete the analysis until the Coast Guard report is complete. I want all the details of this accident to be presented in the future so as to prevent another death, but am a bit shy of posting too much speculation at this point in time. dallen@jhallen.com |

I cannot begin to imagine how tough it is to watch a friend & dive buddy in grave, rapidly deteriorating distress. Like many, I await all the facts once they can be clearly defined. It is a memorial to a lost diver of incalculable value to make known facts that result in saving another’s life. Ken

Hi Doug,I want all the details of this accident to be presented in the future so as to prevent another death, but am a bit shy of posting too much speculation at this point in time. I am really sorry for your buddy and really appreciate your feedback. I wish I could give you the information you seek on the HH but I'm ignorant on the subject. I will also patiently wait for the facts to surface. Thank you, Tibby
