| My unit can beat up yours Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Two divers die on HMS Scylla Wow, more terrible news is right! And poignant is a good description - I remember when the three OC divers from New Jersey were lost on the Speigel Grove last year, friends of mine knew them and I have been on the SG several times myself. Not that it's any less tragic when you read about complete strangers in far off waters, but it brings it that much closer to home when you have a connection like that. Sorry to hear that Steve. Condolences to family and friends ...

| CK+Shearwater ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Two divers die on HMS Scylla Terrible news, very tragic, unusual too for both buddies to be lost as well. My condolences... Slightly off topic- I dived the Scylla for the first time this year (as a last dive on a weeks trip diving "proper" wrecks) it'll be nice in a few years when it starts falling apart properly. I was surprised by its size and more worryingly by the ease with which you can get deep inside. I am not for one moment making a dodgy guess that this is the reason why this couple have been sadly lost but I am concerned that due to its depth and accessibility make it a dangerous "playground" I'm all for man made reefs and sinking old wrecks for training but they should either be blasted wide open or sunk in deeper water. The Scylla is like the 35mtr "deep" pit at Stoney Cove (Infamous oberpriced and crowded UK diving centre) they are red rags to bullish trainees and inexperienced divers. Some people haven't been taught that 30mtrs inside a wreck at 20mtrs is the same as a 50mtr Open water dive and that if they aren't qualified for the later they shouldn't be attempting the former. |
