Other than Joe does anyone own a HS that doesnt crap out all the time ??? I had 1 pressure transduce go bad during travel (it never made it to the water), and I had the screwed up display issue (old connector) when vibrations loosened the display.. At the begining I did have some issues with the computers resetting ect, but once I figured out the battery stuff they disappeared, with one exception.. I was testing the model "o" before they were shipped, my computer kept shutting down at around 80-90 fsw and cameback on during ascent, it wasn;t the battery compartment.. it was traced to the wire routing of the o2 sensor within the case.. it ran across the top of the chip and when the case compressed the force of the wire on thechip and some other components was causing board flexing.. once this was found the routing was changed... I have had multiple explorers and only had a few issues much less than I have had on the vr3 with just a fraction of the dives.. I have sold many units over the years (I go over everything carefully with my sales) and have had only 1 of my customers with a problem (flooded 1 week after my unit, while he was diving with me) There are definately things I do not like about the explorer especially that his design requires the battery to be greater than 3.0 volts (the 3.6 v lithiums are not considered dead until 2.0 v under load and thats how they are rated).. Cold water drops the output of the batteries, if you enter the water with say 3.2 or3.3 v dropping to cold water may cause the computer to shut down because the battery voltage is too low.. I offered to design a robust power supply for Gene several years ago (for a reasonable price) that would allow his computers to operate over a much larger range, but he wasn't interested...
