Re: Golem BOV on Inspiration

Mark, really like the use and placement of the elbow and Whitey valve.
Fit really nicely. and a blob for the article.

Just one question for clarification:
The Whitey valve just shuts of the offboard diluent supply, correct?
It's not switching the gases that supply loop, the onboard dil has to
be shut off with the tank valve.

Thanks for the feedback and the green...

At this point the Whitey valve actually allows me to cut off the Dil as a feed to the BOV while leaving the Dil bottle on. This allows me the following options...

1) Breath Dil from the BOV.

2) Breath Off-board gas on the BOV and isolate it from the manifold and Dil by shutting off the Whitey valve. This allows me to easily go back to the loop if I choose without having to play further games with gas. This is probably how I will enter the water for most deeper dives.

3) Shut off the Dil bottle and have the manifold etc fed from the Off-board. This makes it nice and easy bail to SCR via Off-board if needed.

Dive Safe..

Mark

I didn't get a chance to read Mark's article yet, but just want to input that...

If Mark is using the same Whitey valve as the one most people used on the MK-15 to add off-board diluent, then you actually have 3 options: on-board, off-board and neither.

If you set the switch to the middle position, you won't get gas from either side.

If I follow his pictures correctly, The valve is a simple on/off gate valve ( 90 degree movement) to cut the supply from the onboard supply.. The offboard supply is always fed into the the second block unless it is not connected..

Again, I haven't seen picture of the valve from the article yet, it could be a different valve. I will go look...

Here is picture of the typical Whitey valve used in MK-15 that I mentioned. It is set in the neither position. And up would be one of the on/off-board gas, down the other. On my MK-15, I had down for on-board since it pointed right at the sphere in case I forgot...

ADDited:

Just read the article, very nicely done Mark!

I can't tell from just looking at the switch handle alone, but I think it could be the same valve (Mark ?).

Regardless, Mark is using the valve for a different intention though. More like a simple shut-off valve instead of a gas selector (unless I am mistaken of the intention)...

Re: Golem BOV on Inspiration

very nice Mark,
Personaly I've got only one problem; that is I carry my extra tank on the rig (using metalsub holders screwd on the side) more or less at the place where the valve is, but maybe the valve isn't a neccesity? if you want to change gas from onboard to ofboard closing the onboard tank and simply connecting the ofboard tank to the quick connector might do the job no?
regarding the Golem BOV and acc. have you got a price tag and where did you get it?

The connection approach is really just personal choice. There are several different ways that you could go at it.. What I have done simply provides me the flexibility that I wanted as it applies to gas management. I continue to be very happy with the Golem BOV.

Dive Safe...
