Solus SU-500 Light Review

Hi Folks

Simon aka Padowan has produced a review article on the Solus SU-500 Light which can be found HERE in the library along with images of the Solus.

If you have any questions, comments or feedback for Simon please ask away on this thread.

Again, if you would like to leave Simon reputation, please use the 'add to reputation' button on the right-hand side of the article.

I must say I saw this back at 2005's Dive Show and if I wasn't buying a house at present, I'd love one.... mmmm shiney

Cheers

Lou

Nice one Simon,
Now all you need to do is blag an SU-1000 for review and compare it to the Metalsub HID200!
And stop spending so much time on that torch forum!

I agree with your conclusions, having had mine for a couple of months. I think your article should read 7 and not 6 LEDS?

Nope, the centre prism in the array is just that, a prism, there is no emitter in there. It's only the outer 6 that light up - this is how it's supposed to be, by the way, not a fault.

Simon,
I would be more than willing to give you my SOLUS SU 1000 to test against the Metalsub HID 200, after reading your very well written report on the SU 500 I would be interested to see what you think.

I will be in the UK diving from the 3rd to the 9th June based at Falmouth and we could maybe tie something up then.

My previous Torch was a Metalsub so I look forward to the article!!

Regards

Re: Solus SU-500 Light Review

Guys ... we have had the 500's on sale for a few months now and everyone is over the moon with them. Just got a 1000 in and I am tossing up whether to take it to the South China Sea or not ?? ... It's going!

Based on what we have seen with the 1000 it sure is a mighty torch, while worth the extra dosh.

We have also had a few inquires about the 500 heads that you can now get to fit onto Halycon and Salvo cannisters.

regards Baz

Re: Solus SU-500 Light Review

I got one of these a few months back. My previous torch was a UKD8R (lost in Dublin bay in January) and the SU-500 beats the crap out of it.

On another dive recently it compared very favourably to a Greenforce HiD (though I forgot to check whether that was a 10W or 20W).

Last Sunday I Dived the HMS Audacious off of Malin Head in the North of Ireland for the first time. Not fully dived up yet so I hung on the line at 45m or so and scanned the wreck. Although the viz was 20m it was gloomy due to overcast weather. The Su-500 (on high setting) threw a very good beam on the wreck below me.
