| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Can USA cylinders be filled in Australia? I am about to send a Prism rebreather from the USA to Austaralia, to its new owner. As I start to include the cylinders market "DOT" and "3000 psi" I want to ask you all if these are useful to the new owner there, or will dive shops refuse to fill them, becuase they are not certified for use in Australia. I ask this because in the USA, only DOT marked cylinders can be filled (well, except at home). |

If you can get a testing station in Australia to test them and stamp them then you are fine - however many will not. What part of Australia is it coming to? If it is coming to the West Coast then pm me, if it is East Coast I am sure I heard Barry Hallet (Bazza) mention in the past that he knew of somewhere in Sydney. Cheers, Ben. |

Hence, might not care about DOT or otherwise. John |

It is not worth to go through the "Red Tape" Eventuelly the cylinders needs to be tested and the issue comes up again... Andreas |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Can USA cylinders be filled in Australia? I am Australia now. All the cylinders here I have seen are DOT tanks. What I was told by my local shop was that if the tanks have a manufacture date less than one year old they are fine, becuase that's what is on the shelf here anyway. After that the tanks will need an anual hydro and Ausie hydro facility stamp, along with a valve service. So if the valves are not meat-and-potato yoke valves he may want to consider having you include some valve kits to save on dive shop mark ups on parts they will have to order. But all of these hoops have to be jumpped through every year anyway. There is no reason to not send the tanks. Even if they need full services the cost of new tanks here is CRAZY, and the odds of finding any in stock are slim to none.

Hence, might not care about DOT or otherwise. There is no problem what so ever with DOT tanks, there is a very healthy percentage of tanks used here with these markings.John Our "Crazy" system is that "ALL" tanks require a Hydrostat test every 12 months irrespective of whether they are DOT or AUS certified or not. Providing they are less than 10 years old they will not require an "Eddy Current" check which is a bit more of a cost over the conventional "Stat" Regards, Lance

| New Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Can USA cylinders be filled in Australia? The cylinders are going to Bowen, Qld. They are 3 or 4 years old, aluminum, 19 cu.ft. (about the same size as Inspiration cylinders), with Preece T-valves. I hope he can get rebuild kits from Preece or SeaHornet. |

![]() | Re: Can USA cylinders be filled in Australia? I'm in the same boat re tanks with 15 steel (faber) from 3lte inspo to twin 18lte, I will buy a compressor but it would be nice to test now & again. I also have 2 aluminum 95cu ft DOT & one smaller tank ( 1995) with a mark on it AS 1777 which looks like whats on my tanks in Sydney they all have burst disks I can't check as I'm still stuck here in England till the house sells. |

At the entrance to an escalator in a mall there is a sign posted with the terms of use, just like the back of an airline ticket. I kid you not.
