Re: Looking for a recommendation for a primary torch

I have just had a Dive Rite LED 500 delivered - I will take it for a dive in the next couple of days. Above water the light seems nice and bright. I compared it side by side with my Solus SU2500 so it wasn't exactly a fair comparison, however it seems more focused than the Solus and doesn't have as much of a "White" light. It weighs next to nothing. I am looking forward to getting it wet. A dive buddy recently purchased a Dive Rite 10w HID so that will be a better comparison.

If anyone has a good suggestion for mounting the light on my wrist it would be great as the head is to big for a standard soft goodman mount.

Cheers,

Ben.

Mbsub CAVE LED
I've had mine about a month an am delighted with it. It has a 16watt ostar led which is much brighter than the 10w HID it replaced and a tiny Li-Ion battery pack which burns for 9 hours. It has the switch on the head (big plus for can placement) and you can also use a smaller hand held battery
for travel. The only downside is that it comes in a lovely anodised black, which does scratch in 'normal' diving use.

  • Be switched on at the head, not the battery pack
  • Battery pack small enough to clip to a backplate
  • Minimum 90 mins burn time
No preference of HID over LED - just interested in hearing what torches you are using that fit these criteria.

Thanks
Jamie

The Solus is the way to go, I have a 1250 gen2, its indestructable, the barbolights are great I have 2 small back ups

Re: Looking for a recommendation for a primary torch

I'd agree with the Salvo light but they switch on at the battery pack. Its a great light. But my wife is currently using the new Dive Rite light: LED 500 Corded Flashlight. Its very small turns on at the head and runs effortlessly on 8 AA batteries. Since its LED not HID its has a very long burn time. Also she mounts the battery back in the back of her Evolution so it does not even need to be attached to a harness. Also the GreenFroce LED or HID are great lights too but rather pricey. I hope this helps

Re: Looking for a recommendation for a primary torch

Been diving the DR 500 LED for about 6 months now - excellent!! IMO it out performs the light cannon HID hands down. I have the cord running over my shoulder through the velcro attachments on the lung, the base is attached to my plate.

Its a nice compact powerfull set up and with great lakes diving it sure cuts through the dark.

Another vote for the mb sub cave LED cannister light. Have look in the rebreather forum http://www.rebreatherworld.com/rebre...ter-light.html

Re: Looking for a recommendation for a primary torch

+1 for the Solus range.

I have a SU-500 which I later upgraded to their more powerful Gen2 LEDs.

All the light I need.
