Jaw Fatigue

Does anyone have any suggestions on reducing jaw fatigue while on the rebreather. Some divers are using full face masks but not sure I want to go that direction. Has anyone used the Sea Cure Series 2 moldable mouthpieces made for rebreathers?

Re: Jaw Fatigue

Seacure is the way to go. They don't make one to fit most units, but with a little persuasion you can fit one to most any unit. I had to heat the "wrong" end to soften it up a bit, but a quality zip tie will hold it securely. Some people have also used cement to be absolutely sure it stays put, but I've had no problem at all with mine. If you can find a Seacure III, I believe it fits the older Posideon regs with the large opening, it will require the least amount of fiddling with it to get it on. Of course find the one that's closest to your size and shoehorn it on. There are several threads about the Seacures on the site. Just do a quick search for Seacure and you should find it. Hope this helps, FD.

Re: Jaw Fatigue

Try moving the hose weights around to get the DSV neutral so that you expend less effort keeping it in place.

A neck strap works fine. Cheers

Re: Jaw Fatigue

I use a seacure III mouthpiece on my Golem BOV and have found that rotating the hoses so that when the reg is in your mouth the hoses have no twist at all in that position is most comfortable.

Never had a problem getting the seacure III onto the mounting lip.

Or try a Manta Bite. Search here on Rebreather World for Manta Bite and you will find threads where the Manta Bite has been talked about.

Turn the T-pieces outwards a bit so it doesn't pull forwards and then you don't have the temptation to chomp down to stop it escaping.
The jaw ache is only caused by holding it to tightly.

Re: Jaw Fatigue

I do combinations of what SkinandScuba and Nigel state. Works great with the SeaCure (and a Golem BOV). Well, I still get fatigue after a while if I am going full blast with my scooter.

Good point, Nige.

I clench down on my mouthpiece too much and get jaw ache.

Probably a left over from diving with too many club novices and expecting them to rip my regulator out of my mouth when they run out of air

Re: Jaw Fatigue

I have started using a sea cure. Its a lump in the mouth but it seems to help.

I got sore gums trying the manta bite

A neck strap seems the best way and I keep saying ill make one.

Someone should design and market something to fit the average BOV.
