How do you mount your light?

Hi guys,

So far I've always carried my canister lights on the webbing waist belt. I'm thinking about mounting it like a pony-bottle to my rebreather tanks, but before I try this, I would like to ask if others have experience with this configuration, in particular in cave diving. Is there a danger that the lights gets easily damaged, since it's too exposed? Can you still reach the light switch?

Any feedback, including suggestions for different methods, would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Marc

Re: How do you mount your light?

I'm new to rebreather diving (inspiration) and use the Golem G-Snap for my light and drysuit inflation bottle. Works well so far.

Re: How do you mount your light?

Waht works really well for me is some bungie on a couple of holes in my back plate and then the cannister put through those.

Switch pointing down then its easy to reach back with my right hand and switch it on and off.

Re: How do you mount your light?

Hi Marc - hope all is well and you're enjoying the HH.

I have been pondering where to mount a light canister lately also, in anticipation of getting a new LED. One thing to note is that more new models are coming out with the screw-down light head being the on/off switch - hence it no longer matters where you mount the battery canister or whether you can reach it or not. This opens up a lot more options for mounting ... if you still had your Optima you could mount the canister between the tanks and hidden away inside the cover like I'm planning on doing!

Re: How do you mount your light?

I've tried a few different configurations and it seems the waistbelt w/switch up mount (right side for me) works best so far. I do the same with suit inflation and can't complain.
What I'd love to be able to do is find a way to mount it on top of the canister between the tanks but no such luck unless I switch to a short, fat canister.

Re: How do you mount your light?

I mount my light and inflation bottle to my backplate on either side... Have been doing this for a number of years without any problems. I don't have any problems reaching the switch on my light.

Re: How do you mount your light?

Marc,

Hope all is well with my shallow diving German friend! Yes, I mount the battery pack with Metal Sub clamps on my O2 bottle and the other side I mount a drysuit inflation bottle either 1 or 3 liter bottle, as I usually have mix in the diluent bottle.

Tobin

PS I might even have pictures somewhere.

Re: How do you mount your light?

We at Kent Tooling manufacture small pony brackets that are ideal for what you are trying to do the are available in LEFT or RIGHT hand.

I do the same thing mount my canister on the side of my o2 bottle never had a problem turning the switch on and off.

I do not know how to attach a link from my web site to this post just click on to pony brackets and you can see them.

If some one can tell me how to do this i would appreciate it

John
