Any idea how I could fit this light to a Inspiration Vision. When on twin set it goes onto harness,Just passed Mod1 and bought Inspiration and would like to keep Proteus Light. The light switch is on the canister lid not on the light head.CheersTaza

Re: Halcyon Proteus 3 Light

Taza,

when I had my Vision, I had a DiveRite 10W HID canister torch, which I believe is about the same size.

I attached mine to the unit with one of the AP Off-board cylinder brackets,

Ambient Pressure Diving Ltd.

Brett at DiveLife usually has them in stock.

The canister was fitted to the right hand side, inverted, so I could just reach round and switch it on and off.

Hope this helps,

Gary

Re: Halcyon Proteus 3 Light

I ran my Protius 3 upside down and on a clamp on the side of the YBOD.

The switch on the outside ended up just above the 02 valve.

Two simple (and cheap) choices: the best - just put your backplate onto the Inspo and thread normally on the hip belt. You'll be a much happier camper.

Hard to describe, but also a good possible solution if you really must use the stock harness - remake your "loop" on the light can. Instead of the stock, sewn loop to mount it, make a "tri-fold" piece of the wide webbing, and use industrial-strength velcro on it. You should be able to sew the velcro to the webbing with a strong home machine and strong upholstery thread, or just have a shoe-replace place (or parachute rigger) do it for you. It'll only cost a couple of bucks.

Secure with clamps normally to the can such that the "doubled up" piece of webbing would be against your hip if worn, and the clamp roughly divides the piece into thirds. When folded/secured, it'll form a loop and be very secure (and the pressure against your hip will keep the velcro from being able to be opened while worn.)

There's enough space if you loosen the hip belt on the stock harness up a bit to pull out some slack, thread the can on, and secure it in the normal position to wear the light, back on your hip. Tighten down the hip belt and it's going nowhere...

As I said, hard to describe, and I'm at work, so no photos, unfortunately... but it's a great $2 solution, versus buying the way-too-expensive bracket and trying to mount the light upside down.

Re: Halcyon Proteus 3 Light

For my Solus light I place the battery on the side of the case and thread the webbing that holds the Dil or O2 cylinder in place through the loop on the battery and then back through the normal path. I do the same thing for the small 0.6l cyclinder I use for dry suit inflation.

No reasion why not, but you need to make some bits to hold the CLs down

bit like these I made from two crotch straps.

ScubaAl is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Halcyon Proteus 3 Light

I'm new to diving the Inspiration vision, but to attach my light and drysuit inflation bottle I use Golem's G-Snap brackets. One on each side of the black case. Seems to work well.
Being a new rebreather diver, I'm giving the stock harness system a chance. But at some point if not happy I'll switch to a BP and harness.

as the inspo is flat and your backplate is not - there are some reports out there with regards to cracking of the inspo casing.
Possibly a better choice is a flat backplate.

I made one myself with a couple of bucks worth stainless steel and two d-rings.

Don't have pics right now but if there is interest will do a posting how i did it.
cheers

...or just buy them from Deep Sea Supply - they've got the "adapters" if you really want to flatten out the case. I use a set on my Evo and it's solid. Nice undercounterlung D-rings, clip-points for the counterlungs, etc. I think there's someone on the other side of the pond selling similar bits of kit, although I don't remember who it is.

I ended up laser cutting a couple of pieces of plastic at work to reinforce the Drager shell when I added some hard mounts to it; you could do something similar to spread the stress out on an Inspo if you didn't feel like springing for the parts.
