sorry, but which LED you have seen with 50W?
The 22W LED (Ostar by Osram) we use since last year in our LED-CAVE and PHOTON. A 50W LED is unkown.

That one. If you can cool, drive and columniate it. I'd buy it.

mbsub is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: we need your help for the perfect light

sorry, but this LED is impossible to use with a reflector, because the light emitting surface is to big.
For a spot beam not usable.
I think it needs some time for progress more like the Ostar.
The first progress will be a better efficiency, but much more brightness from one chip???? I dont believe it.

That's the one. It will need a lens as well as a reflector.

Yes, it's a large package, but not excessively so - a centimetre across? Do-able. The other advantage is that it offers redundancy. If one of the emitters in the grid fails, the rest still work.

I like the concepts mentioned previously - a flood option with a spot option. Three of these 20w packages would provide a great flood with a more focussed emitter in the centre to provide the spot beam.

Re: we need your help for the perfect light

1. with a lens for this LED it will be impossible to get a small beam
2. the efficiency of lenses is many more badly than with reflectors
3. the efficiency of this LED cluster is really bad

If you use one Ostar with 22W and a good reflector, i think the result will be the same brithness, which is possible with this "monster"

Re: we need your help for the perfect light

I was told on Friday that there will be dive torchs released this year (if not in the next few months ) that will be :-
LED to blow a 21w HID away
Charge through case
switchable power settings
switchable between spot & flood (in water)
switch on head

& this is not mbsub
