Turned out I was searching the "Tom Parker" site, which has lots of QCs but little detail. No worries. As for feeding an orifice, the best way to do it is to not worry about it" Connect the feed topside for planned use, and if you need to unplug and replug underwater due to an emergency, just rinse the orifice out after. A "wet mating" is actually a pretty rare event. Dave |

| RebreatherWorld Sponsor ![]() Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Solenoid or ADV Isolator and 0ffboard gas connector It all really depends on how often is it connected wet. Really, I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times I have made a wet plug-in as opposed to a predive. plug-in. The Parkers used on the Cis are not much better. Just bigger and more expensive. I could post a picture of a CisMK5P gas distribution block corroded to pieces from water gettin in from the off boards. In the case of wet connections, here's how I feel: Solenoid? Yes. Wash it once a year. Manual add valves? Yes. No worries. Wash them out once a year too. Orifice? This is the most critical part: Maintain it regularly and carry a spare. So far, in any case, it's not been an issue. If you are really worried, one remediation is to move away from the CEJN and QC series connectors and go to the Parker or similar zero-spill connects. These are what's on the CIS offboard and they pass less that 0.01 CC of water on each connection. Dave . The check valve is there to not let in the whole ocean. Stay away from wet mating. If necessary due to loss of gas etc, consider it an emergency step and clean your stuff after. Andy |

Less water is better, and the Parkers are best of breed, but preventative maintenance after a wet-mate in salt water is definately something to consider. The more complex the downstream component, the more desirable it is to do a cleaning. Dave . |
