Say what you feel mark, get it off your chest

That explains it, my backup is just that, if Im on it the dives over. Yours is being used to carry on the dive so of course you want a bigger/brighter candle

For the Barbolite kind of money you might as well have one of these: Salvo HID Torches, 10 watt Hand Held light at divingniknaks 0121 707 5783. Frog, Dirzone, Agir Brokk Scuba Diving Gear

Also, will the Salvo Rats and the Scout be represented on the fuller test? I'm guessing they could be borrowed locally

I considered this as a torch but ummed and arred about using a HID because of its issues with being turned on and off a lot.

As for the Rats and Scout Ill have a word with a man I know

How often do you turn on your backups?

I am doing my cave training in Mexico next week (I baught the Barbolight about two months ago) I so I anticipate doing it rather a lot. Obviously not so in normal diving conditions but the course was in my mind at the time.

There was also the point that I have confidence in a LED torch just working when i switch it on. Theres a moment of doubt every time i turn on the HID .

The bulb or the ballast could have been damaged whilst not in use so the only way to test would be turn it on and off before the dive. An act in its self that can damage it....

You see my quandary

Re: Need advices about RBWstore LED backup

You should consider a tillytec w30.

This one led backup light is very impressive. In fact, i compared it with the barbolight U-15 (older version with 4 leds luxeon III +/- 300 lumens). The tillytec was much brighter and with a larger beam. It runs with 3 AA batteries. My buddy just came back from red sea and did 15 dives with the same three batteries. It is still running with 50% of the power. His wife liked it so much that she used it as her primary light for wreck dives in Egypt.
There is no switch. You screw the head (triple o-ring security) like a green force until it makes contact with the batteries. Indestructable and the most powerful backup on the market for its size.
Price: 160 euros.

Nope, i'm not connected to tillytec. Just pretty convinced by that quality stuff.

Damned! Just gone for a pair of RBWS 5W backup yesterday!
Hope that this Tillytech is not so good that it seems to bee
Was trusting in the quick improvement of the LED bulb so was sure that the multiple LED solution wasnt the good one ( almost for back up light ) but thats too quick now!!!
Just like for a computer you are now sure to choose an obsolete thing at the very moment you pay for it.

Re: Need advices about RBWstore LED backup

I am the devillishly handsome model in Mark's photos and my favourite was the Barbolite. It did throw out an awful lot of light.

I currently have a Heiser as a backup, which is a good torch, however it has a very focused beam. On dives with crap viz I'm glad it's got a focussed beam. On dives with excellent viz I'd prefer something more diffuse. But I always plan for the worst so I'm pleased to have a tight beam.

I do think that all the torches we used are far better than a typical primary light of five years ago. It's great that the technology has improved so much.

I wouldn't have a HID backup, as my backups are treated very roughly.

Re: Need advices about RBWstore LED backup

Hi marc

Sorry but i'm afraid the w30 is that good. You have the brightness of the xtrem tek but with larger beam, no switch and the possibility to run it with 3 AA alkaline, nimh or nimh rechargeables batteries.

AAAHH, forgive me, i'm a @*$µ£.
