![]() | Re: Vr3 Vs. X1 I'm really interested in the X1, but it's useless to me at the moment, since there is no way to get the software onto it without using Micro Windows (and I just refuse to do business with convicted felons). Some X1 customers use Macs, and ran Windows on their Mac. If you don't even want that, the X1 attachment can be configured to run as a Virtual COM port, eliminating the need for the Windows USB driver. Code to load programs into the X1 is freely available and can be compiled under any operating system. However, not all software packages can be installed that way. For example, the free Liquivision bottom timer software could be installed with the free downloader code on any OS, but V-Planner Live is heavily encrypted and currently requires using the Windows/USB setup to install. Future software packages may require or allow different installation setups.I don't even care about running the software on a laptop or desktop - just give me the ability to update the X1 with Solaris, Linux, Mac OS (how about a java app to load the software?). It’s very obvious that the X1 screen and tables are better. I must admit I love TRUE VPM tables better then the VR3 VPM tables…..But…..Over the years I’ve gotten the niggles far to many times so I welcome the VPM tables that the Boris VR3 has given me. Maybe I should have just cut my hard tables with a little conservatism in the past. I also go on record as saying that Delta “P” customer service is one of the best,……..And I live on the other side of the pond! I guess the e-mail way is not the way to get a response from them. Sorry you had that experience. In the future I would call direct. Now the question I want to know why would you go out on a limb and state that’s the computer to buy when it’s not proven and tested ( BY the masses). Please …Please ….realize I’m not trying to make this a pissing match. I want to here your thoughts!! I’m not a dive shop owner or in bed with ANY company…..I’m in the market for another CCR dive computer….I just don’t want to deal with all the B.S. that goes with buying a brand new ($1500.00 to $2000.00) product… I think it’s fair to say almost all new products rebreathers/computers have some sort of defect/upgrade once they hit the mainstream. How many dives do you / Friends have on the X1? I would buy one tomorrow if I felt it was bullet proof. I a-wait to here from you. Cheers Frankie |

![]() | Re: Vr3 Vs. X1 How many dives do you / Friends have on the X1? At this point I would say 10 dives. The point that gives me a lot of confidence in the machine is that when compared to the tables generated by V-Planner, one equals the other. I would buy one tomorrow if I felt it was bullet proof. I a-wait to here from you. Cheers Frankie Does it mean that the computer is bullet proof, that it is the computer for you or that I am mister diver extraordinaire? Certainly not. What I see (hum, perceive?) is a computer that seems to be holding up it's promises. I have tried many times to plan my dive with the V-Planner tables (VPM B/E at +3) and dive the VR-3 and it would NEVER work out. I cut my tables on V-Planner with the conservatism that I choose to dive, set the computer to the same level and it works. That's it. That's my level of expertise with the machine, excuse my enthousiasm if I expressed it too loudly. I have not tried the GAP version.

One of the things I liked was the rechargeable battery because of the number of times batteries have failed on me underwater. You can please some of the people some of the time... ![]() Time in the water is a good point; I think the proof of the pudding for both hardware and software will be when there a many units having done lots of dives. I'm optimistic so far, although I'm setting mine to +5 until I'm sure of the algorithm. Only thing I'd like to see on the x1 is a changeable battery and time in the water.
