![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | DSS CCR-40 Wing We had the chance to dive and test the new Deep Sea Supply CCR-40 wing with our megs. This is the first time we write a review so bear with us. This is what we noted when we dove it with our megalodons at Jackson Blue Springs here in North Florida (we each dove the wing on separate dives): Appearance: Black cordura with "Deep Sea Supply" vertically embroidered on side panels. Catches the eye. Horseshoe shape. Construction: Cordura shell with excellent workmanship and fine attention to detail in the finish. Zipper is located on top for bladder access. The zipper is well protected. The bladder is black and appears very rugged as well. It has three sets of grommets set at standard 11” distance for bolts and back plate. The center has a square access to accommodate hose routing “a la Ford flow”, the opening is protected by rubber on the edges so it will not fray or compromise the wing structurally, additionally it is big enough to get gauges and ADV’s through without fighting (like some other wings adapted for CCR that have only a slot) and running the risk of tears. Ergonomics: With the adjustability mentioned (the three grommet set) above, it should fit a number of preferences and heights. Ego emissions: High, the embroidery on the side vertical panels is orange and can be distinguished easily from a hundred paces Diving the CCR40: The wing was attached to my Meg and off we went into Jackson Blue spring. It has plenty of lift for a bailout and a stage, it very likely can handle more cylinders but I did not try any additional ones. The majority of the lift is designed to be at the bottom where most divers using a megalodon have their valves and therefore the weight. The best feature during the dive was the location of the OPV/dump valve; it is outboard enough that it is easily accessible without having to feel for it. I use a 6 cu ft cylinder for drysuit inflation and with my other wing it gets in the way when reaching for the dump valve, but not with this wing. Also, there is no problem reaching my diluent cylinder valve, very simple. The corrugated inflator hose may be a bit short when using the meg, it was adequate but an additional 2 inches would make it easier to find by feel and easier to use. The LP inflator hose that came with the wing is way too short when used with the cylinder valves at the bottom. I used my personal hose which is 28 inches long. In short an excellent wing that should last for years and dives to come in different environments. M. Scott Evesque in collaboration with M. Celia Evesque (see attached photos)

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: DSS CCR-40 Wing I'd like to thank Scott and Celia for their review. Nicely done. A couple quick points. At the recommendation of Scott and Celia the CCR40 will be shipped with a longer 19 inch corrugated hose, and a 30 inch LP hose. Any DSS wing is available "debaged", without emboidery. The overall length of the wing is intentionally fairly short to avoid trapping under the lower end of canisters. In addition the "horseshoe" design reduces the chance of pinch flats because there is no bladder in the portion of the wing mostly to get trapped under the can. I'll have an example of this wing at DEMA, booth #449. Tobin

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: DSS CCR-40 Wing Interesting........ that wing looks identical to the Rebreather-40 from DSS that I have been diving for the last couple of months ![]() Seriously, I have been using the Rebreather-40 for a couple of months on my Classic Kiss. The wing works extremely well on the CK. Points that were important to me include: Deflated, wing does not interfere with tank knobs. With a short base under the Rebreather (<4"), wing doesn't get pinched under RB in tank rack. Durable outer cover for wreck diving. Super heavy duty bladder to resist punctures. 40 pounds of lift for surface flotation (read off shore life raft). Orange lettering to offset green Cooper hoses ![]() By far, the nicest wing I have had on my CK! Ted
