Desperately Wanted Prism Secondary (working!)

Ok folks, I am getting more than a little desperate and realise I am clutching at straws but I am looking to beg, borrow or buy a working Prism secondary.

I started my training in November, only to find that the secondary on the unit I am buying is not working. Now while I am assured that the problem relates to a manufacturing issue (yes the unit is second hand) and should be replaced under warranty I have not had an outcome from SMI, despite the secondary being in their possession for approximately one month. After speaking with Jason from Sub Sea Suppy it doesn't look like he will be able to provide me with a tasty digital display for a while due to supply issues with housings, so...

If anyone is interested in preferably selling, but otherwise hiring me a working Prism secondary I would be most grateful and would express said gratefulness in the currency of the realm, or even trade camels, oxen or hill-billy relatives if that is more your thing

pm me or email on ben@deepblueinnovation.com

Cheers,

Ben.

Still innovative, a little bit blue, but not quite so deep at the moment

Re: Desperately Wanted Prism Secondary (working!)

Another option may be the Sartek display or a Shearwater but I have no clue if they will work with a PRISM?

Ben, it is customary up here for the instructor to have a full spares kit. Mine does and he regularly lends me bits and pcs when I travel so I don't have to buy them, including his spare 2dry. Does your instructor have one?

Re: Desperately Wanted Prism Secondary (working!)

Hi Guys, thanks for the speedy replies

Steve is going to send me Simon's mobile as the listed one on his site leads to a company he left four weeks ago... thanks for the suggestion Chris.

Hi Andy, Luke does keep a fairly extensive spares kit, however the secondary on his Prism isn't working either at the moment - I can't remember exactly what the problem was, and the only other unit that was in this part of the world was sold a couple of months ago.

Cheers,

Ben.

Contact Subsea Systems in Australia (local for ya!), get one of their *SUPERB* digital secondaries, and forget about it for the rest of your life.

Look here: Subsea Systems - Rebreather Solutions

Their Prism secondary is essentially the same as the Mark-15 secondary that I use, and it's magic. Ought to be in stock. HIGHLY recommended.

Those analog meter secondaries are fragile and obsolete. Trash them.

Re: Desperately Wanted Prism Secondary (working!)

Dave, Colkan uses a version of the digital secondary from Jason/SubSeaSystems that Ben referred to. He'll offer a version for the PRISM that includes setpoint info, but it isn't available quite yet.

Jason does not have any PRISM Secondaries in stock, and no ETA on when he will. We have been trying for 12 months to get them from him and stil no joy.

It's the SAME as the Mark-15 with reversed polarity to the meter from the center section. Ought to be a piece of cake to make/modify from a Mark-15 one. But with that said, a Mark-15 analog secondary with the correct cable and the leads to the analog meter simply unsoldered and reversed will work too. This is all based on what I know from having owned and dived for years the prototype modified CCR-1000 with their (SM's Prism) electronics pod installed. AFAIK the Prism is exactly the same electronically as that CCR-1000 (SM's electronics test bed rig).

As a very quick and dirty substitute, Suggest one of Mark Monro's boards in a cylinder tube. Mark came to my place and did a Mark-15 study and made boards for a 3 cell tube-secondary. Someplace I have a board, but he ought to be able to sell you one. The board, a piece of tube and some end caps from Pat Duffy, and a cable and an hour ought to produce a secondary. Read above and reverse the input polarity and go for it.

Dave
