ATB Mark Chase in aluminium if you drill your holes first and then anodize you shouldnt have any problems. my aluminium metalsub mounts also have ss fittings,no sign of corrosion there. even on its own ss will rust a little .diving knives etc, in salt water. you should get many good years of use. ![]() |

| Re: The " ALIBOX " Can we see some picks of the back off on the back loader. I am especially interested to see how secure the lid is if the meta sub brackets are mounted on the detachable lid. ATB Mark Chase

Have you tested what is going to happen to the SS stand and screws on the Ti box? And what happens to the Al body when you attach the SS stand? I guess you can try it by putting Al/SS or Ti/SS into tub with seawater. My guess: The SS parts will rust on the Ti box and the Al will corrode on the Al box. So I would like to have an idea of how fast. Only way to prevent this from happening is to avoid the metals from coming into direct contact with each other. The actual chemistry/physics are beyond my english. I could try in german though :-) SVEN, My titanium box is several years old now.. It has SS screws and some hardware (like the main hinge, latch ect).. No problems at all with corrosion.. I only have 1 place that I get any "rusting" and I can usually just wipe that off easily (and its the same place as 100% ss ones react as well).. Titanium is a strange metal.. not many things react with it (even our body doesn't recognize it and will easily grow over titanium)

| Only on RBW would people be arguing about a dodgy screw hole in a tin box. (Very nice tin box, BTW!)

| RBW Member Current Rebreather/s: | Re: The " ALIBOX " Just out of interest, do you know how the main section is constructed? I can't see any evidence of a welded seam down the lengh of it (which would lead me to think that it is bend/curved and welded). With an apparently seamless construction like that I can only think it was extruded, but surely the tooling costs for something like that would be astronomical? I can see that the bottom is welded on, by the way... |

Look at the centre picture and there is a seam on the flat section (to right the of the left hand big holes).I can see that the bottom is welded on, by the way... It looks like it has been butted and flushed. Leaving the weld on the flat section saves stressing the weld. ...and looking at the weld bead on the bottom this would make a lot of sense to me! ![]() |
