Rebreathers you Dive

Hi Stu,

Nice work on the upgrades.

I'm asssuming the intent behind the display of the rebreathers below ones name is so that others can see if someone has experience on a unit. I have experience on mare units than I own and I'm sure others are the same. What would you prefer we do? Just list what we own or what we have reasonable experience with? (possibly what units one is trained on? and their instructor????)

You know I have been pondering that very question and wondered if we should come up wiht a set of guidelines eg eithe ryou are qualified on it or have more than x hours diving one.

Next Upgrade will be if insturctor or not and wha tunits which will work on the map.

and so the first 100 kiss divers who never had instructors, or the hundreds of home builders who seem to forever miss ending up a statistic unlike those with certifications are deemed not worthy yet again

Well done in fully aligning this website with the commerical suppliers and instructor agencies and helping to propagate the belief that they are the font of all knowledge. it will truly be a step backwards in getting real information to the masses.

If that were true, would there even be a homebuild section?

I don't agree with your assessment of Rebreather World's loyalties at all. I think that the moderators and website in general are quite open to all viewpoints, brands and philosophies. The fact that there is more content on RBW about rebreathers manufactured by mainstream companies (if there is such a thing when it comes to rebreathers!), is more due to the fact that a much much higher percentage of the rebreather diving community dives on such machines. Additionally, the fact that RBW sponsors are regularly publicly criticized on RBW forums would indicate a fare and safe environment for open discussion including all viewpoints.

I think your accusations are misplaced. Just my $.02

Re: Rebreathers you Dive

Well, I'm going to shoot for displaying the units I'm certified to dive and tick home build as I am a tinkerer that has turned out a variety of breathers over the years.

<edit> It would be nice to be able to indicate what I choose to dive now though.

Instructors could just get a Rebreather World label like my DEMA team one. That would be easy Stu

Downtime is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Rebreathers you Dive

All,

Not to become to sensitive, but the minute you said experience, I thought "Oh no, I'm just starting out with my initial training". Does that mean I get nothing, till I gain "100" hours?

Maybe you should have a checkbox on the registration page, that asks which RBs to display below your Avatar. If you make it a personal choice, you get rid of all the whining members such as myself.

Otherwise, this is probably one of the best boards I've ever been on, keep up the good work.

Cheers,
Michael
