Dear Valued Customer,



This upcoming Saturday evening, into Sunday morning, 10/28/2006 until 10/29/2006 from 12AM EST until 6AM EST(does not account for daylight savings time) we will be performing scheduled maintenance on our NYC POP.



During this time, we will be shutting down our NYC POP, traffic will re-route through our NJ POP ONLY during that time. BGP will be shut down on Above.net and Savvis routes, with all traffic will be routed over nLayer / Telia. Customers will experience some downtime / latency for approximately 15 minutes as BGP reroutes over to our NJ POP.



The purpose for this maintenance is to relocate our dark fiber ring from above.net on the second floor, to the building’s “meet me” room on the 15th floor. This will allow us to access a multitude of additional carriers, including Level3, MCI, and NYIIX Peering. Our expansion ability will also greatly be increased, giving us the opportunity to expand our network from 8Gbps to 16Gbps within a week if necessary. In addition to this, we will be upgrading the capacity of our links to allow for growth.



Once the upgrade is complete, we will have a total network capacity of 8Gbps between our NY and NJ POP’s. Presently we are expanding our backbone providers and contracts for installation have been signed with additional carriers. These carriers will be added in and completed by January 1st, 2007.



Looking ahead to the next upcoming months, you will see the following carriers / routes being added within our network:

Giges

4 x nlayer - Active

1 x telia - Active

1 x savvis - Active

1 x telia - Active

1 x cogent (for cogent only routes and our value network) - November 2006

2 x Level3 - December 2006

1 x mci - January 2007

NYIIX Peering - November 2006



We have been taking great strides to improve the quality of our network, including the successful implementation last week of our Toplayer Anti-DDOS equipment, expansion and restructuring over the last few months of our internal network, and overall operations. This service upgrade is just one of many steps we are taking to improve the service quality and network performance our customers have come to expect.

If the engineers planned correctly it should be relatively transparent, BGP propagates at a resonable clip. If they hose it up it should be quite a show. I used to do this sort of thing before I discovered Rebreather.

Something you need to understand about me and computers:

Christine + computers = oil + water

This computer has an ignition key and gear stick.
It takes 20p pieces in a slot meter
It is powered by a hamster in a wheel, the hamster is marginally older than the computer.
It has an external hard drive which is steam-powered. If I want to download a picture, the kids have to stay up all night shovelling coal.
I once opened the c drive and there was a digestive biscuit in it.
Quite recently I posted an attachment and thought I had put the whole of My Documents onto the internet. This made me do the chicken dance for several hours.
The hamster has bitten me on my typing finger
Computers and I generally dont get along.
