Clarifications on Commercial posts & links

We have had a bunch of pm's on this so we wanted to put out a quick note to clarify our policy on posts on Rebreather World that sell stuff or link through to websites that sell things.

For personal sales, dive trips, group buys etc that are not commercial entities these are positively encouraged - hell we have a whole section of the forums on them!

For commercial posts where people are selling things on here to make money or where people link through to websites that sell things to make money then they are only allowed from sponsors or to sponsors web sites. eg no 'mates' linking to peoples online commercial outfits that make money out of our community that are not sponsors.

We think of it in terms of "if people make money out of the community they can support it".

We will spend upwards of $12k on this site this year (because the staff give their time free else it would be a LOT more) and without our sponsors it would not happen.

And just to stop the first obvious question, links to key manufacturers we view as being news :-) as is reporting on new products etc.

If it is a grey area then PM us - just like the guys who launched the book on Inspirations did - good for the community so it was fine....

Re: Clarifications on Commercial posts & links

100% ok

one question however : if someone asks I am looking for this or that can we answer where we say the item ?

as a matter of fact if one look for a sensor it can be found any where and the answer can be considerated like a commerçial annoucement, on the hother and if one is looking for a dolphin 3 sensor house holder (for example) the answer will be a piece of information.

in both case the "risk" is that someone hidden behing a couple of anonymous logins ask the questions and gives the answers mentionning where to find this or that.

an othere question

many times I asked for advice, and recieved a pm from some suppliers It was great for me cause their offer were nice ..I hope it will still possible

regards

Re: Clarifications on Commercial posts & links

yo

Sometimes borderline tricky to say if it is comercial or not. Sometimes borderline ignorant on my part not thinking to much about it but not intending any harm or ill feeling.

As I totally apreshiate this forum here and are blessed with ignorance as well when it comes to what it cost to keep up the good work I would be absolutly willing to pay a fee when putting up comercially trip or teaching info, if it pertains to me personally.

If a seperate section would be there, say called " comercial section " or " add's " or something, and in order to post and advertise there you would need to contribute, pay, drop some dough, bleed some green that would not only be ok but would help you guys as well to maintain this site. Not a problem with me as an individual who is teaching a course at times here or there. In order to pay for that small comercial or add make it Pay Pal please so the payment is as easy and painless as this great forum here.

And if that section would be clearly marked as comercial or add section people could choose not to go there ....

Just a thought ....

greetings
Matt

Here are my thoughts on this. I think it's inline with what Stuart is thinking here.

If you ask... Does anyone know where I can get... "X" or... I have a problem and I am looking to solve it...

Then someone says.... Here is "X".... You can get it from.... "Y" it worked for me..... or.... I have and extra one that I am looking to get rid of... I am fine with both of those as long as it's not followed with a sales pitch...

If... Someone says... Hey I sell what your looking for... I would exect that would only be appropreate for an official sponsor...
