There is a ton of info in here. Wish I had known about it before deposit placed back in September '05. Going to California to train with Jeffery Bozanic this May. Rebreathers delivery next week per SM. I have many questions about unit and travel. First of which is what pelican case to ship in, need for spare part at traing, to include extra sensors, etc. Do airlines give you much shite over transporting cylinders, etc... Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Saying Goodbye to Bubbles. I hope. James Hello James, your stock Prism will fit-just barely-in a medium size Eagle Creek duffel, minus cyls and cowling, and can be brought as carry-on. But try to avoid letting them weigh it as it is over some airline c/o weight requirements. I have never been refused being able to carry it on, especially when I tell them how much it costs and how hard it is to replace. The cyls will need to be open, valves off when put in the checked luggage. Never had any problems, sometimes they open the bags to take a look and it may help to put the TSA notice of their ok-to-fly page from the web site in with the cyls. If you decide to use a tech style back plate, the unit will not fit in carry-on. In this situation, I unscrew the head from the BP and place the loop and head in a Pelican 1550 case. It will fit all this easily and still have room for computers and a few other things. The 1550 is under all the airlines size rules and will keep your counter lungs from getting creased. The BP, scrubber bucket, cowling and cyls then go in the checked bags. They are obviously not so fragile and I have had no problems putting this stuff in my big, soft, dive luggage bag. I wouldn't bother with a big pelican case as it will probably be over weight for some airlines checked bag rules and they will eventually break it anyway. Also, you don't want to leave your O2 sensors in a checked unit due to the temp exremes. All in all, I would avoid checking the important parts of your unit if you expect to have it in working order after travelling... -Andy |
