Yes Phi, I get it. It's the effort required and outcome desired that I don't understand, the "what's it to you?", factor. I would not want to be the guy who talked anyone out of buying any unit. And I wonder why someone would seek that much influence over somebody else to begin with. It's an interesting psychology. And BTW, I'm not saying that mverick is "that" guy either. I didn't take any one person's word for it when I made my choice and I would feel pretty uneasy if somebody changed their mind after listening to some hyperbolic statement made by me... -Andy |

| Go Nude Or Go Home Current Rebreather/s: | Re: Shearwater on the PRISM Oh come on fellas cool down. Its not the big of a deal, don't get me wrong here I love diving my PRISM, underwater it is just a great bit of kit. I just feel like I am sure every other CCR diver does about their own rig, that things could be worked better for the type of diving they are doing. Now I agree the boys in Aus including myself had some hassles with build Q&A on the 10 rigs we purchased, but over all I think most of us are pretty happy now with what we are diving. It is my belief that SMI did drop the ball a bit on the support side. And I only hope that if/when I have another problem with my unit it is taken care of in a timelier manner. Now can we please steer this thread back on track. Cheers Chriso

I get the feeling that there were a few issues... Hi Jonny/Jonny Yep there where a few issues, SMI did a great job at fixing some in good time and order, other problems dragged out a bit The issues we had where IMHO small and typical of any CCR. As our units where built during the move, and training done while SMI got set-up in TN this may have slowed down the support and had a few of us getting frustrated with things. But as I said all of the units that I know of are now running well and I am very pleased with how mine has performed since I got it back after the software fix. Not going to post the list of issues we had, as I believe they have all now been sorted and integrated into SMI's Q&A procedure hence eliminating them from the system. In hindsight would I have bought a PRISM? Well maybe, but after the last 2 weeks of being in West Australia and having the opportunity to strip down a Meg and seeing firsthand the support and customer service Leon offers his customers, as well as the short lead times as oppose to waiting over 12 months for a unit. I believe this will be my next purchase in 12-18 months. Cheers Chris

You're a smart guy, you know there's 2 sides to every story. The whole Prism/Oz story get's more and more complicated the more I hear. And I've heard it from both sides. Chris has every right to complain if he's had a bad experience. What I don't get is people who don't have a Prism and have no intention of buying one, complaining and ragging on the company. What's in it for you? No comprende... -Andy Some people will just eat the loss. When the company should have fixed it. They are very passive. I would rather they call the company. And make them cowboy up what they owe.If he needs a little reminder that he paid for a functional unit. New with a warranty. And that it should be covered. And that he is in the right to ask. And to chew on them a little for a pretty major mis diagnosis. I'm not a manufacturer, a Instructor, Don't know anyone in the Rebreather business, I just hate seeing people getting screwed. I'm probably one of the few people who don't know any of them. You're right. There is 2 sides to every story. But, it seems to be the same story over and over. On the secondary. Do you think he was treated right? |

But my intention from day one was to swap out the secondary for a digital; I knew when I purchased the unit that the secondary was a weak link, not so much in function as it does what it is designed to do very well as a completely separate redundant secondary, however in form it is a fragile component that has to be looked after, and the sort of diving off Ribs and the smacking through 6ft waves as we do, is not the place for an analogue jewelled movement. Hence I am not too fussed about the warranty, as in a month it will be pulled from the unit and put in a big box with plenty of other bits of kit from my diving career that will most likely never again see the light of day again. As for the rest of the unit, it performs as I expected it would, and I as I said I am very happy with it and the way it dives. And with the assurance from SMI that their customer service has improved I have faith in my purchase and the backing support expected form purchasing an expensive bit of kit Cheers Chris
