Its not hard to turn on the solenoid and then immediately go look at the rail voltage to see what's up. I was dissheartened as well by the episode but my freind and mentor, who understands infinitely more than i do on these subjects, reckons that the inspo leccys, test the batteries only on a voltage output, howether, the solenoid needs a minimum Amparage to work, and a battery COULD still have enough volts, maybe 5- 5 1/2 volts but not enough Amps to fire and therfore pass thew test on calibration but not fire the solenoid. Anyway i for one when turning on the consolls listen for the fireing of the solenoid, and infact was aware of the fact that it didn't fire.. So my message to evryone else is beware. ![]()

I guess we Prism users just don't have enough to talk about. That's why the threads get hijacked by users of other RBs talking about problems with their units.![]() ![]() |

![]() ![]() | Re: Lithium 9v battery? Lithium and saltwater do not mix well, some nonsense about lithium hydroxide, volitile, exothermic reactions, etc. Should someone decided to install a smoke detector under the battery cap of a PRISM, complete with lithium battery and, hypothetically (since we all know that PRISM divers *never* flood their rigs ), should the battery compartment flood, the analog secondary would back up the electronics assuming the loop is not destroyed and the diver's head is intact following the explosion. |

![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: Lithium 9v battery? Hi Toren, Sounds to me like this idea should be filed under the heading: Probably will work but not terribly smart. I consider it fairly unlikely that the electronics cap will flood on the prism. However, should it ever do so in the ocean, and should there be a Li - ion battery in there it would short-circuit, rapidly discharge, overheat and possibly even ignite...all not very nice for the continued integrity of your unit and your diving pleasure. Not worth the proverbial 50cent part in my book. Cheers Andrew |
