Source for TD Preece valve rebuild kits

I am looking for rebuild kit/components for the TD Preece pillar valve that came standard with the PRISM. Does anyone have a good source? Has anyone assembled an after-market version of a rebuild kit, or are there any other valves out there that use compatible parts? AFAIK, SMI does not have any of these kits/parts and these parts aren't otherwise easily available from the manufacturer.

Thanks

Re: Source for TD Preece valve rebuild kits

I have a pile of them that need to be serviced as well.

I've found Sea Hornet Valves & Manifolds which lists the service kits,

and

http://www.seahornet.com/scuba/schem...valveschem.gif

which lists the valve schematic.

I'll hazard a guess that the kit we need is 229KD1, based on the stem
o-ring part number ending in 214, which is what is normally used for
.75" NPSM tank valves.

Now, I'm wondering if any of the Sea Hornet dealers listed on the
web site will send rebuild kits to the US?

Any advice from Down Under readers?

Re: Source for TD Preece valve rebuild kits

I am sourcing these at the moment, I know there are two types of seat and the one my valve takes is not the standard. I will post a photo of my seat for you to compare, but if you could do the same it would be helpful. I will then order kits for anyone who wants them, although be aware that sea-hornet are notoriuosly slow to supply items.

PM me with the number of kits you require if you would like me to arrange them.

Cheers,

Ben.

Re: Source for TD Preece valve rebuild kits

Heather,

Have you tried TDPreece direct, to see if anyone in the US services their valves, if they can't sell you replacement parts direct?

Hi Ben,

I'll try to get a picture posted -- everything I have is currently in-use. I have valves with both the stem (ball) on the top, and without. I am not sure if that is what delineates "differences" between the valves or if it is something apparent only when the valve is taken apart. I'll send you a PM about # of kits....

I haven't tried contacting Sea Hornet or TDP about buying direct and shipping to the US. Others lead me to believe this wasn't possible for reasons relating to exporting small orders (?), but I haven't done my own homework on this (yet) to confirm that is true.

Thanks.

Re: Source for TD Preece valve rebuild kits

I tried to get parts directly from TD Preece years ago. Multiple requests, never so much as a reply.

I'd definitely like to be counted in for kits, a half dozen ought to do me well.

Photos as promised below, note that the Seat is a reverse thread. If anyone has different seats to the one shown below please post photos so I can ensure we get the correct kits.

Cheers,

Ben.

Re: Source for TD Preece valve rebuild kits

Thanks Ben for the detailed photos. I just bought the newer style valves with the rubber balls, as pictured above, so I won't need a rebuild for a while, but I would still be in to buy 2 kits to have around for the future. Even with the extra trouble, I think the Preece valves are worth it, gives me a little more peace of mind when filling/using O2 in far away places, knowing they have a slow turning ratio. Let us know what you find out and thanks for taking the initiative. -Andy

Thanks Ben. I'll try to get a pic up of a disassembled valve without the stem/ball on top by the end of the long weekend to see if those are different. Some of the ones I have are like the one you picture, some are without the stem/ball.

Re: Source for TD Preece valve rebuild kits

I have just confirmed details with my supplier; TD Preece are out of stock of these kits at the moment, but will make them up when ordered. They will cost $22AUD each kit (HP Seat, washers, o-ring). If anyone is still interested can you pm me quantities and I will provide payment details. I should be able to confirm a manufacture/delivery timeframe on Monday.

Cheers,

Ben.
