Defective & Dangerous Sensors

Have any other Prism divers experienced these defective and dangerous sensors? I received my Prism from SMI in September with 3 completely defective sensors. All 3 sensors read 0. The sensors I have since received "new" from SMI have read at or below 17mv. These sensors also fail to show 1.6 at 20 ft when doing an O2 flush. There are others in my locale that dive Prisms and have had similar issues with these sensors. When we have asked for new sensors, we are sent sensors that produce the same results.

Why are these sensors not being checked at AI prior to delivery to SMI? Why is SMI not checking these sensors upon arrival from AI?
Why is SMI not checking these sensors prior to selling them to customers.

These sensors are dangerous to use and the answers from SMI, has been to send out more bad sensors. Where does one go now?

Re: Defective & Dangerous Sensors

Why haven't you contacted SMI about this via phone?

Why are you asking questions of us that only SMI can answer?

If you have contacted SMI, than why havent you told us that outcome?

Why I say..why??

RTFP. It would appear that he has been in touch with SMI and received a further batch of defective cells and is now asking if he's the only prism user, other than those he knows about, suffering from this issue and how he should pursue the matter.

There is only one thing to do and that is to contact SMI again. It sounds like more a venting post than any thing else.

I have not had the problem you have reported. But we will see soon. My cells are about 14 months old and it is about time to get some fresh ones. I will let you know if I experence the issue...

Re: Defective & Dangerous Sensors

Just out of curiosity have you put the cells on a mv meter to see what they truly read?

When I had my PRISM and others that I know it was not the cells that where defective but the analogue secondaries that was giving false readings, according to SMI it was something about the compensation weight falling off then magically reattaching itself

Cheers
Chriso

That's almost as good as the software code became unscrambled (?) due to the plant moving from California...

I put them on them on the mv meter as soon as I get them and when I go through a post dive and again when I do a pre-dive. I record (as per SMI's instructions) each time. The one's from SMI continue to read low are are reading lower and lower in the last 6 weeks since I have had them.

As to going to Rebreather World Store or Narked at 90, as most people now, the Prism sensors are proprietory to them. As far as I know, you can't purchase the sensors from anyone else.

As to contacting SMI, obviously you are not a Prism owner. Try calling them and let me know how you make out.

Re: Defective & Dangerous Sensors

Diver,

I would like to apologize for my earlier tone, I am in a bad mood today. I just found out I am pregnant and as soon as I find the father I'm going to kill him.
