![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | YBOD cylinders and prism cowling... Hey fellas, has anybody tried using YBOD cylinders(Faber steel 20's)on a Prism with the cowling? This would give me the option of not bringing my al 19's and then prevent the big hassel of airtravel with cylinders. The YBOD 20s are slightly longer and thinner than our al 19s and I know the cover is designed to rest on the cylinders. I wonder if using the YBOD cyl would cause the cover to rest on the scrubber or the head, which would probably not be good...Andy |

This would simplify life and you could then use any bottles available.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi Chris, I like my cowling for the slip and fall/small boat knocking about protection and for poking around wrecks. I dove without one for a year before getting it. I probably won't be doing any wreck diving where I'm going in the Philippines. I'm just wondering if it's an option as I will be diving with a guy who has a YBOB and may have extra cylinders.-Andy |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Cowling Hi Andy. I've used Faber 3 litre steel cylinders with my Prism in the UK. You can get them under the cowling. However, they are a bit thinner and a bit longer than the standard 19s that come with the unit. I had to modify my cowling slightly by cutting a small strip off the bottom (where it sort of folds under) to clear the valve necks. The cowling bottom edge then rests on the valve necks. It's not such a snug fit on the cylinders, but with the bungy it works fine. The other (bigger) snag is that to make this work you'll need to lengthen the LP O2 hose to the solenoid, otherwise the O2 cylinder cannot be brought down low enough on the backplate to get inside the cowling along with the scrubber canister. You need about 3" extra. What I did was to make up a brass extension piece with a 3/8 UNF male on one end and a female on the other - easy if you have a lathe or know anyone who has. That way I can go back to the 19s any time (if travelling for example). Andy (the other one) |
