To be honest, Dave, I couldn't care any less if that display is in use in France or elsewhere.

I do, it speaks to the credibility of manufacturers and the habit of vapor-ware releases in the rebreather industry. It's NOT directed to any specific manufacturer, although we all know the litany of the usual vaporware suspects.

Best,

Dave

Errrr.... that's not how the post came out. Just checking! After hearing for years that the US Navy was "soon" to select the Prism as it's next rebreather, I'm always interested in the "next" military claim to eminate from this honorable maker.....

Best,

Dave

Dave, is the sarcasm really necessary? What about SMI is dishonorabe? If SMI eventually get the USN to adopt their ECCR, that's great. If not, so what? Is there any other off-the-rack unit that made it so far in the aquisition process? What other manufacturer has independant test data on their website regarding scrubber performance, WOB and SP control? Anybody who reads the data can't help notice that USN were impressed with the Prism performance.

IMHO, that makes them more honorable compared to most... -Andy

Andy, some trolls wouldn't know honorable if they slipped an fell on it. It's NOT directed to any specific troll, although we all know the litany of the usual trolling suspects.

No, I guess not. Forgive me for having watched the progress of the subject hardware and firm for so many years that I have a fully formed opinion regarding the litany of promises made and never met. Must have caught me in a peckish mood. The rig is a workable one, simple and with a good technical pneumatics architecture. Electronics are robust and very reliable (I have a prototype set in one of my Mark-15's and it works just fine, hard to improve on "it always works"). Mechanical characteristics are not robust enough for *my* shipboard use, but your actual mileage may vary. I do also have a load of air bubble riddled cast epoxy parts, gobbed-on epoxy spliced electrical cables, and misdimensioned Mark-15 pod lids, etc., from the maker sitting in a box under my bench, so it's not like my complete opinion was formed in a vacuum.

Best to all, I'm going into the backyard now with a shotgun to look under my little bridge for that troll you mentioned... . I'll try to cage him and keep him from peeking out at the divers.

Re: Deco electronics on the Prism

the USN have all but made their decision on their rebreathers at the moment, they've opted for the Carleton Tech Mod 1 upgrade and are currently rolling this through their fleet...shame really as there are some good sets out there...the USMC, now that's a different matter all together! There's a huge gap between recreational sets and those used by the military and that's not just in the pricing, which to a large extent is justified...fortunately there are a number of considerations which don't affect the decisions we make as recreational divers that do affect the military. Remember, for them it's only a method of transportation to get them from point A to B and back again safely much like a car.

It is to my understanding that heads up displays are in use (if not please correct me), I did not mean to imply that they were PRISM'S or that they even provide deco. I do not know how advanced or what data they do provide, or who even manufactures or supplies them. The point I was trying to make is it will be a while before the sport arena sees this type of computer

Oceanic Worldwide - Scuba and Snorkeling Gear, Scuba and Snorkeling Equipment and Dive Gear

You're right. Oceanic.

Just wondering where your info came from?
