Fitting a VR3 to a PRISM

Ok following on from the Meg VR3 Thread

Has anyone out there managed to fit a 4th cell to the PRISM yet?

I figure there are three was to go about this

1: Drill a hole through the head and mount it next to the other three
Not sure if there is enough room for a 4th cell
Might damage the head $$$$
Void warranty

2: Screw on adaptor between the Bulkhead and Inhalation hose
No one I know makes a TPiece (Yet)
Putting on Inhalation hose will keep the sensor nice and dry
No modification to the unit needed

3: Port into the lung
Can't find a good position to mount to P Port
Don't really want any more holes in the lungs

Hi Chris, I'm just wondering why exactly you'd want one? I can't see any real advantage which would warrant the extra expense and complexity (another sensor, another set of seals) when the unit maintains it's SP so well. I just toggle back and forth btw the 2 user defined SPs on the VR3. Are you doing a lot of manual dives?-Andy

Hi Andy
Couple of reasons, I know the PRISM holds setpoint like a dream, however
I am planning on ditching the Analogue secondary from my unit, after hours of diving the SK and being able to see all three readouts next to each other, I much just prefer it to the brick.
So looking at something like this
http://www.deepdiving.net/misc/sec1.jpg

Having it all digital from the head, it would be nice to have a 4th cell just in case it all goes to the shit.

Real-time Po2 Deco is nice, especially on Deco above 6m when the PRISM wants to sit at .7.

Lastly I just enjoy pulling shit apart.

Cheers
Chris

Hey Chris,

That secondary looks the goods...no delicate jewels there. Have you confirmed it can be wired up to the prism yet?

Also, just looking at the pic...what do you push to cal? The screen?

Finally, how sweet would it be if it were wireless!!? Huh, Jas? Jas?

Cheers

Hi Chris, now I understand. The little digi pod looks very nice. What powers it and how easy are the batteries to change? Are the amps in the housing? As for the above 6m deco, you could turn off the unit and I think there is an option to switch to open circuit bailout O2 on the VR3 to complete the deco, correct? Personally, I wouldn't want another seal/sensor/cable hassel to deal with and would stick with the needle gage secondary. Remember, it still gives you that small additional piece of info that digi meters won't; the speed with which the needle comes up as you switch btw them is an indication of the integrity of the sensor. Does this new little pod give raw m-volt ouputs as well or some other info to compensate for losing the other info? If you get rid of the Prism sec. you'd also be losing the ability to varify the SP and check your battery voltage underwater and on the surface, without opening the head. Are you put off the Prism sec. because it died? Are they sending a new one?-Andy

HI Andy
I am sure JasonM will chime in with deatils of the digi secondary, I have not really got alot of info at this stage other that there are plans to get it working on the PRISM's

Yep I do switch the VR3 over to O2 OC when on Deco.

I am bummed with the secondary dying after only 25hours of use, I have not yet heard from SMI, but am sending the secondary back today for them to look at. From reports the digi secondary is not going to be too expensive so if SMI don't come to the party I will definalty be going this way.

Not really stressed about losing the ability to check the battery or SP, I can do these with a mv meter before the dive. However I cant see why we cant look at putting a couple more displays in the case for SP and battery, it is somthing I will be suggesting.

Cheers
Chris

Hey Chris, the cable that's attached to the digi pod looks like the same type used for the Prism, Is it? Have any of the other sec. from your OZ batch died?-Andy

Yes I believe it is the same Lumberg cable used on the PRISM.
Mine is the only secondary to have gone belly-up.

It is odd as it is still working and reads correctly when checking the setpoints, but is out by .1 when off the unit. Anyway we will see what SMI say.

Cheers
Chris

Bazza is an unknown quantity at this point
Hi Chris ... don't send the secondary back yet wait until you send your head back with the others units heads, now that SMI have recalled them ... save a few bob!

regards Baz
