First cold water rebreather dive

Managed to get in the water today. What a diffrence breathing gas in a rebreather loop compared to an open circuit ice dive !!! Machine worked great, gloves didn't, cut the dive short due to cold hands but managed to get the unit wet and see if my harness mods worked out. Have a few things to tweak and then should be off to the races. The biggest problem im having is with the sidemounted bailout. Can't seem to get the bungies just right, The tank slips out after a short swim. Guess I either need to shorten them up or add a bolt snap...

We had high winds today so the toughest part was getting de-kitted. Everything from clips to quick disconnects froze in the short walk from shore to the van.

Ken,

Where were you diving, and how cold was the water?

Cheers,

Hi Ken,

Congrats on your dive. Here is a picture of my bailout bottle, notice the position of the valve handle and the bottom clip. That may be the cause of your slipping out??? Hope it helps

Sunnyboy,

We were diving in the St Clair river between Pt Edward Ontario and Point Huron Michigan. Right at the South end of Lake Huron. The water was 32 degrees F. Vis was poor, about six feet or so.

Martin,

Thanks for the pic, my clip is much higher so I will try moving it down and see if that fixes the problem.

Hey Marty,

When you dive, doesn't the folding ruler rust up? See you in the Spring

Jeff,
All the joints are made of brass.

Did you get your rig yet?

If he's diving 32 degree water, I think it's his BALLS that are made of brass!

Hi Ken,

The height of clip will determine your trim and the way the bottle lays along side of your body. The position of the clip will stop or in crease slippage. The clip should be on the opposite side of the valve or just a little on the inside causing the handle to point outward. I wish I was more of an articulate writer Please Rebreather World do chime in.
