Pathfinder CCR

I'm not going to compare Pathfinder to Discovery.
I have zero experience with the first.
But I must admit they are going to share almost the same market.
And I'm sure we (Discovery users) need Pathfinder sales start.
We need it very much.
Because if Poseidon will see competition he will serve Discovery users better.
Does anybody have any insider info about Pathfinder dates?

IMHO Poseidon Tec price heavly depends on Pathfinder success.
And because I'm aiming to TEC, I wish all the best to Pathfinder.
Any thoughts?

Re: Pathfinder CCR

I think they will share a similar market, but the pathfinder IMO is likely for a more tech savvy diver wanting a lighter and smaller unit that has ISC's robust build.

I see the pathfinder as more upgradeable, fewer parts, easier to maintain, future-proof, modular, and retaining its value longer.

Are you saying you have a Disco and are already planning to upgrade.. not a really great endorsement.

There are a few people who have dove both I hope they weigh in..

Discovery is modular unit, initially I bought basic version and was very happy.
Now I'm ready for deeper diving.
Easy upgrade and I'm beyond normomix range.
If you brave and experienced you can go directly to TMX version from beginning now.
I prefer step-by-step approach.
Do you know the release date of Pathfinder?

There is a better caption for that picture:

Re: Pathfinder CCR

Let me offer some insight here. I have to preface this with the fact that my experience on either unit is limited. I have about 8 hrs on the Pathfinder and about 9 hrs on the MK VI so take what I have to say with a grain of salt.
I have been a meg instructor for about 5 years and love the unit. I live close enough to ISC that I get to visit them several times a year and as a result saw the early development of the Pathinder. I was immediately impressed with the design concept but was still undecided about the idea of recreational rebreathers. The release of the Pathfinder is only weeks away (really I heard it from the boss man). I was still trying to get my head around the streamlined 3 day recreational program that will be potentially coming for the Pathfinder. To that end when TDI offered a MK VI instructor crossover course I felt it was a good opportunity to learn the MK VI and to learn about teaching for a recreational audience.
I don't dislike the MK VI for what its purpose is. I have had a couple of pokes at the fan club just to see what they really know and what I have discovered is that many of the active ones on here probably have more knowledge than the average user of it's intended market. That is what frightens me. There are some pitfalls and details that must be addressed by the user to be dived safely. The marketing will lead you to believe that a monkey can dive it and for the most part that is not a gross exageration. The hype employed by one agency that states you don't need a checklist because the unit will check everything for you is utter BS! Until there is a CO2 monitoring system in place and it has the ability to check whether a scrubber is installed or perform a negative pressure check this unit needs a few brain cells and a checklist to dive safely.
The active O2 cell monitoring is brilliantly applied and I would not be surprised to see other manufacturers follow suit. The WOB is good and the BOV although flimsy utilizes the Xtreme regulator what breaths like a champion.
Of the dozen dives I did on the MK VI I had to bailout of the first one immediately because I did not allow it time to perform a 6m cell validation and it freaked out on me. Bailing out was a breeze though. The next dive it lost the depth sensor reading on the paddle but I assumed the sensor was working since it was showing a solid 1.2 PO2 with no complaints. Jerry Price's comment was it probably needs a firmware update. OK sounds simple enough.
The next 8 dives were on a loaner unit, (thanks Chris at Silent World) and I was able to return to the boat on the loop after each dive. In spite of the surprised looks that it was still working OK. On my last dive of the series I did something in response to a post on RBW about spiking PO2 and going deep fast. My buddy and I left the 6m float on the Spiegel Grove and I put my head down and went for the sand at 40m Shortly after arriving there my PO2 was 1.6 and the bells and buzzers were telling me to ascend. Not bailout but just go up. So I did. The warnings continued right to the surface with no explaination of further messages. I rebooted and it was ready to dive again. I didn't do another dive on it even with only 1hr on my $50 prepacked scrubber.
All in all the MK VI has some good ideas and will some day be ready for the average Joe (or Tarzan) but I don't personally think it is quite there yet.

Re: Pathfinder CCR

The ISC Pathfinder is about ready to show up on the market (so they are saying) I have been anxiously awaiting this unit for a few years and last year had the privilege to dive one in Scapa Flow Scotland. I did 8 dives of about an hour each. The unit I used was a prototype and there have been a few changes since diving that unit so I won't speak too much about the electronics other than to say it is not like the APECS, it is way simpler to operate (more intuitive) and will be supplied with a solenoid injection. I don't believe COPIS will be offered.
The unit will also be sold with repackable radial scrubber (hurray) and there will be a few tank, loop, and counterlung configurations available. It uses a standard Meg loop so I think all the same BOV, DSV options plus a soon to me release mark II back mounted CL. This thing is as light as the Poseidon MK VI or ever lighter yet it is built with the Sherman tank like construction we have come to expect from ISC.
The Pathfinder will be rated to 60m right out of the box. This is the issue that will bring the training into the picture. Unlike Poseidon, ISC is very involved in how the unit is trained and who is doing it. They have always maintained the highest standard and keep instructors on their toes and accountable for what they teach. This will probably cause problems with some recreational training agencies (especially the big ones) who like to have their own way of doing things. Unlike the MK VI the Pathfinder will not babysit you but will give you enough rope to hang yourself if you are not paying attention to what you are doing. How this will jive with accellerated training programs will remain to be seen.
This is some interesting times for the rebreather community and I am glad to be a part of it.

Dive safe folks, whatever unit you choose.

Good news!
Hope Poseidon Tec upgrade will cost less than Rolls-Roys then...
Now Poseidon has to think about pricetags

Greedy Poseidon locked it by patent.

Can you give some more info?
I was the active writer in that thread.
During my tests I could pump PPO2 maximum to 1.4
What software version?
How fast?
Minimum loop volume?
How much O2 and DIL?
